Even to non-Swedes this vote is important since it gives Team Fantomen and Egmont's editorial staff information about what type of stories you want to read in future issues. Now available to buy is a Lithograph set by artist Willy Hudic and publishers Editions Dante from France. This lithograph set is limited to only 100 copies with each set costing €45.99. You can purchase the set here on the Editions Dante website. These lithograph set consist of 9 prints which includes 7 in black and white with the Noir look and feel and 2 in colour. The size is 21cm x 29.7cm with the cover on 350 gsm oaoer stock and the interior pages printed on 250 gsm paper stock. Included with the set is an A2 sized colour print. This set is the first licensed Phantom product by artist Willy Hudic who has recent Semic France work behind him. We have a new Daily newspaper artist update with Bret Blevins taking over the daily strip as the temporary artist from the 15th January 2024 onwards. The news of Bret taking over from Jeff Weigel was first announced in Tony DePaul's blog post, which can be read here. For those who have come in late, we recommend you reading our article about the change of artist with Mike Manley's recent health concerns which has seen him taking time off the adventure strip to recover. This change in artist from Monday, 15 January 2024 will also see the start of a new adventure starting. Bret is no newcomer to Phantom phans. He worked as an uncredited inking assistant for Mike Manley on and off since 2020. The last time was during November 2023 - you can read about that here. It will be interesting if he gets credit like Jeff Weigel has during the last eight weeks - my guess is he will. A huge thanks must go to the whole extended team who have ensured the Phantom newspaper strip continues. It could have been very easy and likely easier to allow the Daily strip to end but the team at King Features and the creators in Tony DePaul, Jeff Weigel, Mike Manley, Bret Blevins, and Scott Cohn all deserve some praise for their extra work. Paddy Lennon has also included the Team Fantomen story "The Ghost Who Died Twice" written by Norman Worker, with art by Hans Lindahl in the bio of the 11th Phantom. I personally love this touch.

Unfortunately news has reached us thanks to phans Helio Guerra and Andreas Eriksson that Brazilian artist Walmir Amaral has sadly passed. Born 1939 and aged at just 17, he began his professional life as an artist for Brazilian publisher RGE (Rio Grafica Editora). For many phans, they likely have not heard of him with only one of his stories ever being published outside of Brasil (see note). However, by many phans he is seen as the grandfather of Phantom and comic art in Brazil with him writing and or drawing over 25 created Phantom stories and drawing over 150 known Phantom covers. This number is likely to increase as further research continues. On top of his Phantom work, he worked at RGE from 1957 to 1986 as writer, editor and artist. A more detailed biography of his work can be found in the Phantom's World #8. Regular Frew readers would have seen his work in the Phantom's World series in issue #8 which was the story "Operation Brasil" by José Menezes, Walmir Amaral, and Wanderley Mayhé, you can watch / listen to our review here and here. The cover was also drawn by Walmir Amaral. For those interested, we have included a video comparison of the English and original comic of this story below. Editors Note: Our research shows two Brazil RGE created stories being published by Frew and not by any other publisher. One of these "Operation Brazil" is credited to Walmir Amaral and the other printed in Frew #1763 is currently credited by an unknown RGE creator and Adir Teixeira. The research on many creators from the RGE series is unknown with the information still to be found.

The Phantom Mallon Diary is a tradition that many a phan enjoys and they are back again for 2024 with orders being fullfiled and time for phans who did not receive theirs from Santa to order. This year Mallon is producing their ever-popular diary, returning to an accompanying journal (last seen in 2021), and continuing with their recent innovation of a limited edition print of the diary cover art. They have once again moved away from the wall calendar which we saw last year in 2023. Last year Devil shared the limelight and this year it is Diana as they share a quiet, calm, evocative and beautifully executed moment together. The modern scene is drawn by Jeff Weigel being printed on the diary and print and the retro cover is from a past Frew cover (issue 131) for the journal. On December 8th, Brazilian publisher Mythos made its traditional announcement of publications for next year. For those who came in late, Mythos returned to publishing the Phantom in 2019, ending a long gap for the character in Brazil, with different formats. From 2022 onwards, the publisher has opted for the omnibus format to publish the adventures of the Ghost Who Walks. To date, four omnibi have been published compiling daily strips with art by Ray Moore (D001 to D015) and Sy Barry (D082 to D094) in chronological order, with two volumes for each of the artists. Four more volumes are planned for 2024: two with stories illustrated by Sy Barry and two with illustrations by Wilson McCoy, one of which should feature the daily strips that were illustrated by Moore after McCoy took over the art (D026 and D027). So far, there has been no statement from Mythos regarding possible volumes containing the sunday strips, but during the broadcast of the advertisements, the editor highlighted the possibility of an omnibus with recent and colorful stories. This review is of the two latest issues from Indian publisher Shakti Comics numbered 10 and 11 respectively. Both of these came out during the last four months. Both issues contain one Phantom story each. No. 10 contains the daily story "The Lake Lady" and no. 11 contains another daily story "The Return of General Bababu", both done by Lee Falk and Sy Barry. No. 10 has a cover done by Abhishek Biswas based on "The Lake Lady story". While the cover looks quite nice, the portrayal of the lake lady in the cover very much differs from what's in the story. The colour work on the cover is also quite nice. The story "The Lake Lady" is coloured by a new colourist for Shakti called Santosh Adsul. His colour work is kind of similar to the previous colourist used by Shakti. However, the colour is not sub per as most of the story looks quite darkened. From the phantoms costume to skin tone, the background, etc all seems to be a bit darkened. It is kind of similar to some of the Indrajal comics colours, but it doesn't make sense for Shakti to repeat that kind of thing in the present time. The issue also has two pages of information about the various writers and artists working in the strip. It is indeed a very welcome move from Shakti. However, it is isn't complete as it leaves out the recent artist names. No. 11 features a cover done by Abhishek Biswas based on "The Return of General Bababu" story. The cover it quite nice with a nice iconic presentation of the Phantom with Fraka on his shoulder. The character of Bababu looks quite well, also the scary looking lionness that attacks him. The colour work is also done quite well. The story "The Return of General Bababu" is again coloured by Santosh Adsul. Unfortunately his colour work has not much improved in my opinion. The colour still kind of look overused as some of the details found in the original black and white art becomes kind of invisible. While some panels are really nicely coloured, most of it doesn't look that good. The colour of the phantom's trucks still hasn't changed. The issue also features an introduction to Bababu at the beginning of the story. It is indeed a nice step taken by them to kind of provide a recap of previous stories. At the end page a synopsis and some information about the story is also featured. Both these issues provide some information about the phantom on the back cover, which was last seen in the second issue. However, they still have some spelling and punctuation errors there. Shakti continues to deliver nice products with good paper quality and covers. But the presentation of the stories, which is pretty much the main thing for the comic, still isn't very pleasant. Hopefully Shakti improves their colours and continues to bring out great products, as it would be a great combo. Wishing them the best for their next ventures. Mikael Lyck from Chronicle Chamber reviews Fantomen 25-26/2023 the last Fantomen comic for the year which features the following stories: "Storstadstrubbel" ("The Ingenues") by Tony DePaul and Jeff Weigel "Fången i Marrakech" ("The Prisoner in Marrakech") by Janne Lundström and Jaime Vallvé Luca Erbetta's cover feels very different with the Mori girls in focus but The Phantom is still seen clearly as a form of graffiti. Do you like it? The main story is the Sunday story "Storstadstrubbel" ("The Ingenues") by Tony DePaul and Jeff Weigel When the Mori youth take an initiation passage, the girls are not allowed so they create their own by going into Morristown/Mawitaan. The side comic is titled "La Venin" by Laurent Astier still amazing! The next story is titled "Fången i Marrakech" ("The Prisoner in Marrakech") by Janne Lundström and Jaime Vallvé. This Team Fantomen classic story takes place after the 19th Phantom and Jane Cary honeymoon, Jane gets kidnapped and The Phantom is not taking that. This story goes in nicely with the Belle Epoque storyline we have seen by Pidde Andersson in both the Frew and Fantomen comics. Preview of the next issue which is the first of 2024 and it comes out in 2023… The story is "Slavjägarna från Singh" ("The Singh Raiders") by Andreas Eriksson and Ivan Rodriguez. This story was recently published in Frew in their Anniversary issue, it is good that we get it so close after. You can watch the boys reviewing it here. ElastoWit is a small Ukraine company who create and sell thematic rubberised plastic figure collections in 54mm and 60/65mm sizes. Think the children "army men" or "cowboys and Indian" sets. ElastoWit have nearly 50 different designs ranging from popular pop culture icons like Robocop, Planet of Apes, Ned Kelly, The Island of Dr Moreau and many more. Added to their range is the new Phantom range which includes Devil. The detail is quiet amazing on such a small size. The Phantom can be brought in either purple, red, blue, green, gray, brown, tan, fuchsia and Devil can be gray, black or brown. The price for the set of two is currently USD 28,00. It is worth noting that price is a bit higher than other collectable plastic figures on the market, but as stressed by ElastoWit, they do not cast their kits in thousands, these are very limited series. On their Facebook page, they have noted that most kits are limited to 30-50 odd. It must be noted that these kits are NOT licensed by King Features Syndicate but the question has been asked about purchasing a license.
