Some more great news from Norway with the Phantom returning to an Egmont Christmas book celebrating our childhood heroes and characters. This book will be on sale online and at shops from 30 October 2026, and at the time of writing, it is available for preorders. Get your copy now from Akadmika This 124-page book will feature six stories and one story from The Phantom, Mandrake the Magician, Rip Kirby, Flash Gordon, and Modesty Blaise. This book will be in an anthology format featuring an extended essay/article about the characters and other related interesting information written by Kristian Hellesund. According to the link on Akadmika, the Phantom Sunday story is drawn by Sy Barry and will be from 1990. We assume it will be the 135 Sunday Phantom story "The Eastern Dark at Janorra". The other stories featured are all classics, with the Mandrake the Magician story from 1948. The Flash Gordon story from 1953, the Rip Kirby story is from 1949, and the Modesty Blaise story is "The Black Pearl" from 1966. The sixth story we believe will be the 1992 story written by Bob Scarlatti and drawn by Romano Felmang. The story was originally commissioned by Christies' Auctions which is a British fine art auction house, and the story first in their 7 May 1992 auction catalogue featuring many comic and cartoon original artwork up for sale. You can learn more about this fascinating story that has previously been published by Comics Revue, Frew, and Sweden's Agent X9 in this article. At this stage, the cover has not been announced along with the exact details of the other stories, but when we know, you will know. Sad news has come out from Frew Publications that Dudley Hogarth has been released from his publishing duties that he has completed for 12 years. He took over the role from Steve Shepherd (son of the late Jim Shepherd) in September 2014 for Phantom issue #1706 and continued after the acquisition of Frew by Rene White in January 2016. Dudley Hogarth and Glenn Ford became the power couple behind the renaissance of the comic after the purchase as they worked together to improve the comic. Through their hard work, they saw an increase of sales and subscriptions through several improvements. These improvements and changes included a dedicated newer younger pool of cover artists, which brought a fresh style and vigorousness that caught the attention of both newer readers and also older readers who had dropped the comic. They hired creators from around the world to create new Frew-created stories, as well as releasing their own products like trading cards, posters, graphic novels, and trade paperbacks. Many phans were also excited about them attending conventions, which gave them a chance to rub shoulders with those who created their comics. On top of these changes, they produced coloured comics, variant comics, themed annuals, and coloured Daily and Sunday classic stories which pleased many a phan. Throughout all this, Dudley Hogarth continued to produce a regular fortnightly comic on time, which is not an easy task with an ever-shrinking budget and market in an ever-progressing online-saturated world. Felmang is one of the most popular Phantom creators in the world, having created stories and covers for several publishers over an almost 60-year-long career. He is credited as the story artist on seven Fratelli Spada stories (published 1967-1970), one hundred Team Fantomen stories (1987-2014) and most recently has started writing and illustrating original stories for Frew Publications in Australia (2016-present). Add Comics Revue into the mix, and he's also had over fifty covers published by those companies worldwide. It is exciting news to hear that he will be in attendance at the Albissola Comics Italian comic-con being held on 19th and 20th September 2026. The Definitive Collector's Book Celebrating the Artist Who Defined The Phantom is now live to pledge and back! We are also working through the necessary licensing arrangements for copyrighted material from King Features, DC Comics, Marvel, and other relevant sources so that the finished book can present Sy’s career as fully and authentically as possible. Will Murray has sadly passed. He was a pulp historian as well as a writer who wrote short stories and pulp fiction for a wide range of characters, including our Phantom for Moonstone Books. He was considered one of the top authorities on pulp fiction of the 20th century. He wrote prose for Doc Savage, The Destroyer, The Executioner, Tarzan of the Apes, King Kong, The Spider, Superman, Batman, Spider-Man, Sherlock Holmes, the Green Hornet, Zorro, Honey West, Cthulhu, Dr. Herbert West, and numerous others. Murray also created the Unbeatable Squirrel Girl for Marvel Comics. Our thoughts and prayers are with Will Murray's family and friends in this sad time. For Moonstone Books, he created three stories. Two were prose stories and included in the two Chronicle Books published in 2009 and 2010, which featured spot illustrations by Rubén Procopio. The illustration for one of the stories by Ruben is included below. The third story featured a story written about the fourth Phantom and illustrated by Shawn Van Briesen and Mark Stegbauer. This story was featured in the Generations title released by Moonstone Books in 2009. The series was originally intended as a 21-issue maxi-series with one story for each Phantom. Each regular issue of Generations is 36 pages, with a 22-page story in "comic novella" format, i.e. illustrated prose and not a regular comic book story. In March 2026, we wrote how the latest attempt of a Fantomet series by Egmont Norway was again canceled, and now thanks to the attention of some eagle-eyed phans, we can share that a new publisher is taking the reins to revive the Phantom back in Norway. In the Pondus Magazine #6 from 2026, it has been announced that publisher John Berge, from his publishing house JB Forlag will be releasing a brand new Phantom book in November 2026. At this stage, there is no news on the finer details of the book or if it will be an ongoing series, but we will share it here when we know more. We are just assuming here, but we expect to see newspaper stories as the main staple of content for the book. If anyone wants to review this book for us, please contact us at ChronicleChamber@gmail.com. John Berge is a journalist and publisher. He has been involved in the comics scene in Norway for years. When he started John Berge Forlag (JB Forlag) it was to publish comics. The only comic publication he got to market was five James Bond albums in 2000 and 2001. After that, he concentrated on trade magazines and websites for the video business, later the movie business and PRO AV and the toy business. He also runs a local newspaper in his hometown, Kristiansund. Berge also published a comic fanzine in the 80s, Ny Dimensjon, when he was only 14 to 16 years old, and he wrote articles for Semic in the 90s. Later he was hired as the editor of their (and later Egmont’s after the buyout of Semic) comic magazine Seriesamler’n, from 1995 to 2008. We find it interesting that this is a new publisher and not Egmont Norway. It follows the Danish publisher E-Voke publishing the Phantom. We wonder if it means that a smaller publisher can survive on a smaller margin of profit than a larger publishing house like Egmont. The poor Norwegians have had no luck in the last 8 years with their Phantom comic. Let us hope this series will be different. For those who have come in late, here is a brief synopsis of their checkered recent history. In 2018 the regular magazine, after 1200+ issues, was cancelled. Since November 2023, ECR-Verlag Werner Reuß has been reprinting Phantom daily stories in single-story issues as well as special collected hardcover editions. Released September 2026 Daily 105: "The Jungle Home" Daily 106: "Rex, the Missing Heir" Daily 107: "The Gladiator" Daily 108: "The Missing Daddy" Daily 109: "Luaga's Undercover Tour" Released November 2026 Daily 110: "The Mission" Daily 111: "Yes" Daily 112: "The Fence" ECR Comics, based in Northern Bavaria, Germany, is primarily focused on printing the complete daily adventures by Lee Falk and Sy Barry. Their plan is to first publish Sy Barry’s complete works, including the daily strips 82–182. Later, the Sunday pages may be released in a newly colored version in the original newspaper format. These will include issues 60 through 142. The numbering confuses some with their series starting at 82, which is the number of the first Daily story by Sy Barry. Thus, there is no issue 1 from ECR Comics; as that was created by a different artist (Ray Moore). The number of comics are released by the number of pages in each story and, hence, comic. Since ECR Verlag Werner Reuß publishes the issues in sets of approximately 80 to 100 pages, each set contains between 2 and 5 issues for a price of €29.80. For example, volumes 101–104 have just been released. Each volume contains a complete adventure by the writing team. The adventures vary in length from 11 to 48 pages. Consequently, the comics also vary in page count. On average, the adventures in this number range are about 26 pages long. With each set and at the same price, ECR Comics releases a hardcover edition with the same content, comprising 2–5 adventures. Since the Phantom comics have been published in Germany on and off since the 1950s—not least the 238 volumes from Bastei Publishing - ECR has decided to release adventures that have never before been published in Germany as variant editions with new cover art, in order to get Bastei collectors excited about ECR Comics as well. The covers for ECR Comics are created by creators named Andy, Indra, and Wernie. All three use pseudonyms. In an amazing exclusive, also coming soon is “The Origins of the Jungle Patrol” in an optimal landscape format. More on this soon. Spiraling out of events from The Phantom 5-issue series and the subsequent The Phantom vs. The Red Dragons #1 one-shot, The Phantom vs. The Singh Brotherhood #1 sees the culmination of several story lines weave into one final showdown. This is arguably the most action-packed issue in Mad Cave Studios' tenure, and as of the moment, it's the last of the announced The Phantom titles. Writer Ray Fawkes and Artist Russell Olson return, with colors by Juancho! Velez and inks by Taylor Esposito. Is Asif Singh an original character? While The Singh Brotherhood is a timeless foe of The Phantom, Asif Singh as the organization's leader is original to this series. With how this issue plays out, and how Asif is characterized, it's likely a way to incorporate classic enemies without overlapping with the lore of classic Singh members. The conclusion of this issue suggests that perhaps we may see another member of the brotherhood take charge, should this series continue. Does Princess Sin appear again? No, sadly. While The Phantom vs. The Red Dragons #1 had an open-ended conclusion, we don't see Princess Sin again. Malmö is the third-largest city in Sweden, after Stockholm and Gothenburg, and the seventh-largest city in the Nordic region. Located on the Öresund Strait on the southwestern coast of Sweden. What makes Malmö special from a Phantom perspective is that it is the location of the Swedish branch of Egmont and now the location of the latest adventure. In issue 18-19/2026, the Phantom visits the city in two of the stories included in the magazine. This magazine is 100 pages in full colour and features three Phantom stories: "Spionernas hamn" ("Harbour of Spies") by Mats Kejonen and Janusz Ordon "Pestsmittad!" ("Plague Infected") by Norman Worker and Jaime Vallvé "Stackars Jimmy" ("Poor Jimmy") - A Phantom parody by Jimmy Wallin This special comic is now out in shops from August 19, 2026 and a little earlier for subscribers. As this is a special comic, we are going to explore the contents of the comic. The cover is beautifully drawn by Hernik Salhstrom and features a bunch of happy, celebrating soccer fans of the local football club who feature 'sky blue' as their traditional colours. The Phantom is standing on the Arbetets ära (The Glory of Labor) which is a famous 1929 bronze and granite sculpture by Axel Ebbe located on Möllevångstorget in Malmö, Sweden. It depicts naked workers lifting a heavy stone block embossed with an old industrial skyline, symbolizing labor history and local working-class struggle. "Spionernas hamn" ("Harbour of Spies") by Mats Kejonen and Janusz Ordon In this story, the 20th Phantom must help a friend who has been caught up in some political intrigue. The year is 1953, with Malmö being famous for being a hub of spies during the Cold War between the world's superpowers. It was also at the time the home of Ingmar Bergman, who was a Swedish film and theater director and screenwriter. He is considered one of the greatest and most important filmmakers in the history of cinema, most notably as a prominent figure of both the European film industry and Swedish cinema. The scriptwriter behind the Malmö adventure, Mats Kejonen, lives and was educated in the city. I am sure a majority of the Fantomen Swedish readers will love to see the Phantom back visiting their country. However, for the non-Swedish readers, will the story still hold up for those who have no affinity to the country or city, or will it feel forced? We would love to hear your thoughts. The story is drawn by Janusz Ordon, who is a very popular interior artist for Swedish but also Australian readers who have read his stories in the Frew comic. "Stackars Jimmy" ("Poor Jimmy") - A Phantom parody by Jimmy Wallin "Poor Jimmy" ("Stackas Jimmy" in Swedish) is a Swedish comedy strip by Jimmy Wallin. It stars a fictionalized version of Jimmy Wallin himself and is also set in Malmö, where he also lives. In this one-page story, he assists The Phantom with an assignment. I am surprised Frew does not use the same marketing trick of having the Phantom visit Australia to coincide with their comic conventions. Shakti Comics could also do the same again with the comic conventions they attend throughout India. Surely even casual fans would buy an extra comic if it features a hero fighting crime in their city. "Pestsmittad!" ("Plague Infected") by Norman Worker and Jaime Vallvé It may surprise some readers, but "Pestsmittad!" ("Plague Infected") by Norman Worker and Jaime Vallvé has never been published outside of Scandinavia. It was first published in Fantomen 24/1984 and last published in 2001 in the Norwegian Kronike series. This story refers to what happened in the 1977 "Mystery in Rome" story by Ulf Granberg and Jaime Vallvé as well as the 1998 story "The Ring of Death, Part 2" by Ulf Granberg and Kari Leppänen. On his way home from England in 1633, The Phantom and Suran visit Italy, where he meets Catherine Galilei, niece of the astronomer Galileo Galilei. The fourth Phantom is an interesting Phantom, with the Team Fantomen stories portraying him as probably the only person in the lineage as someone who struggled with the calling of the generational legacy. Saturday Morning Cards (SMC) was present at San Diego Comic Con held at the end of July 2026 and they released a new collection of their exclusive, high-end cards celebrating The Phantom. Last month, we reported that toy company Collect Major unveiled new King Features Syndicate, Inc.-licensed figures in their Big Rubber Guys toy line. These toys are 8-inch (20.3 cm) figures modeled after popular wrestling action figures from the 80s and 90s. The Phantom, Flash Gordon, and Popeye are among this starting lineup of KFS-licensed figures, with the first two now available for preorder. The Phantom 'Big Rubber Guys' figure from Collect Major On CollectMajor.com, each Big Rubber Guy retails for $49.99 USD ($75AUD, €45, ₹4,850 INR & 500 sek/nok). Free shipping is available in the United States, though shipping won't start for quite some time. Both The Phantom and Flash Gordon are noted as shipping in April 2027.
