  • Dublin Comic Con 80th Anniversary Comic

On the Lightning Strike Comic Books Facebook page they have announced that they will be selling a 80th Anniversary Comic at the Dublin Comic Con on August 6th and 7th. It does say that you have to be present to receive a comic with no online sales. If we at Chronicle Chamber find a way around it or find someone who will be there (hint hint Joe who now lives in England) we will let you know. We will also let you know when we see anymore information about the comic including sneak peaks etc. From their Facebook page: The Phantom 80th Anniversary Comic in celebration of Lee Falk’s Phantom turning 80 this year, Dublin Comic Con have been granted special permission by King Features Syndicate to produce an exclusive comic of the character to celebrate his anniversary. The comic will be available for sale only at Dublin Comic Con, taking place in the Convention Centre in Dublin on August 6th and 7th. All proceeds from sales of the comic will be donated in full to Tallaght Hospital’s Children Ward, Temple Street Children’s Hospital and Crumlin Children’s Hospital in Dublin. The comic itself will feature previously published comic strips, material on the history of The Phantom, his creator Lee Falk and an article on King Features Syndicate. • New Hermes Artist Named – Sean Joyce

Thanks to Guy Poissant who posted the rear cover of issue #6 of the first Hermes Press mini series on his Facebook page, which shows the new artist including a promo image of the Phantom standing with Diana and Devil. News of him until now has been hush hush, which lead to some rumours that a big surprise was in store with the new artist that will be doing the second Hermes mini series. However that was not the case. Not much is known about Joyce and he is a relatively unknown to majority of phans, but judging by this one image alone he has talent. All at ChronicleChamber look forward to what he will do with our character. #HermesPress #SeanJoyce

Comic Book Resources have recently released the first few pages of art of #1 which features an interesting double page spread along with action straight away which will no doubt please some. It is worth reading this interview between the artist and writer to get more of an idea behind the scenes of the saga. Will you be buying it? THE PERFECT JUMPING-ON POINT FOR NEW READERS! Join Flash Gordon, TWO Phantoms, Mandrake the Magician, and Prince Valiant on a disastrous intergalactic rescue mission! • PREORDER The Phantom and the Voodoo Witch Doctor

Atlantis Models has officially re released the 1965 Phantom and the Voodoo Witch Doctor model kit. According to their website and Facebook this should be released in June 2016 and is current available for pre order at a reasonable price of $39.98. In looking at photos of their Flash Gordon set it comes as close as possible of the original 1965 Revell kit with their logo instead of the Revell one. Also worth noting is that this includes the box and instructions unlike the other current model kit from Monsters in Motion which makes this not only a kit builders will buy but also collectors. Thanks to Phantom Sunday Artist Terry Beatty for informing us phans about this. Model kit of the original 1960’s by Atlantis – available for pre order now and scheduled for release in June. #TerryBeatty #FlashGordon #Revell

  • Hermes #6 is FINALLY Out!

For those that have come in late, Hermes #6 the final part of the exciting but long drawn out saga has been released and is now available to be purchased from your comic book shop or via the web. As most know from our recent announcements, finding this comic in Australia and New Zealand can be hard with the trade embargo held against the series when it first came out. Interestingly the final part was advertised in the latest Frew comic. We will review the last part in an up coming podcast (we have not disappeared) but in the mean time get the copy yourself and have a read. We would recommend reading ALL parts together to get a better experience. #HermesPress

  • More Hints from Hermes about their new Phantom Mini Series

In an article by Comic Mix they talk about the legacy of the Phantom to survive over 80 years in today’s world and correctly give the Phantom its true historical nod as the first superhero. They also talk about Hermes' up-coming new comic book series. Publisher Dan Hermes talks about their exciting Avon release but maybe more importantly he gives us some hints about the new series including confirming that Ron Goulart is the writer but also the story arc featuring John F Kennedy which means we are likely to be reading about a historical Phantom – likely the 20th. Information on the artist is still a secret but Dan has informed the Comic Mix readers that he is a Hollywood artist and he is creating matte paintings. It is unknown if every panel will be painted or whether the matte paintings will be the covers. When we know more, you will be informed. Dan revealed that next up is another Phantom comic book series. In this new adventure, John F. Kennedy reaches out to the Phantom to send him on a secret assignment. And while the Phantom isn’t an American, he did attend school in the states and his wife is an American. Industry veteran Ron Goulart is the writer, but the artist is new to comics. “We loved Sal Velluto’s art, but for this we wanted something different,” said Dan. The new illustrator is a Hollywood artist, and he will be creating matte paintings in the style of the legendary Alex Raymond. “His work is on par with the best of George Wilson,” teased Dan. But he wasn’t ready to reveal the artist’s name to me at this time. #HermesPress #AvonBooks #RonGoulart

  • New Phantom Price Guide

Needing to track your Phantom collection and wanting to know how much it will cost you? As reported on Facebook there is a new price guide that is now officially available via the creators eBay store. Interestingly it has been published by a publishing house called Niche Press who have published other price guides previously. Price Guides always causes much debate and consternation but generally are a valuable resource to any collector, seller and comic book shop. Not much information has been released yet. We at ChronicleChamber have communicated with the publisher Niche Press who has reassured us that the author is a reliable reputable seller who collects the comic himself. We are in the middle of negotiating more information from the publisher to officially inform you here but also on our next podcast episode. As you can see by the below two screenshots the contents does NOT include images/ photos of comics. #NichePress #PriceGuide

  • Hermes Press to Reprint Avon Novels

In the 1970’s several of Lee Falk’s Phantom stories were re-worked as short novels. Released originally by Avon Publications in the US, the series of 15 novels retold some of Falk’s most famous stories. Of the novels five were written by Falk himself with other writers filling in the other ten. Of these, Ron Goulart, using the pseudonym of Frank S. Shawn, wrote six. Recently, on the Hermes Press YouTube channel, publisher Dan Hermes has announced that his company will be reprinting the entirety of these novels. In the video Dan reveals that: The books will start being piublished "in or about July" Once they hit production, the books will be released every second month for 30 months The reprinted books will be slightly larger than the originals They will be printed on better quality paper The George Wilson covers will be "reconstructed" so that they are perfect After the publication of all 15 books, a slipcase to contain them will be made available for sale. In the video Hermes also discusses upcoming releases for their The Phantom Sunday collections and reveals that Ron Goulert will also be the writer for the second series of Hermes’ on-going Phantom new comic books. While there is no solicitation info for the Avon reprints yet, you can find all the info in the video below, along with information of a whole host of other Hermes Press Phantom projects. #HermesPress #AvonBooks #LeeFalk #RonGoulart
