For keen phans, the name Marco Navas Estudio is not a new company as they release a previous statue of the Phantom in three colours - purple, blue and red in 2011. 10 years later they are now releasing another set with more characters. Is it OK for the Phantom to drink anything but milk? Recently in a Tony DePaul and Mike Manley Daily strip, the Phantom was shown pouring and drinking what can only be red wine with his wife Diana over dinner. How do phans feel seeing The Phantom drinking anything else? The Phantom is world known as a milk drinker. So much so several media campaigns has used the Phantom to promote the beverage. The most famous one has to be with Billy Zane dressed up as the Phantom promoted milk with the "Got Milk" campaign. The other popular campaign was with the Swedish "Norrmejerier" in 1998 with the Phantom holding a glass of milk. They even produced multiple products with a pin, recipe book, post cards and a refrigerator display sign. Below is a gallery of the items - more information can be found at this website. Every Phantom phan would remember reading at least one story where the Phantom goes to a bar, pub, nightclub etc and orders a milk and then gets laughed at. Tony DePaul and Mike Manley are not the only ones who have recently shown the Phantom drinking other beverages and potentially upset some die hard phans. In a Moonstone story titled "The Aviatrix Part 1" by Ben Raab, Pat Quinn and Ken Wheaton, it had a waiter giving a pinot grigo to Diana and a milk to Kit. However if you look at the second set of panels, the Phantom has the same coloured beverage as Diana. Maybe, just maybe The Phantom was drinking pink quik. What is interesting is that the text clearly says it is milk. If I was to guess, the text was modified after drawing / colouring by the artist by the writer or maybe even by the Phantom consultant which was Bryon 'Guran' Shedden at the time. Where do you sit with this? Can the Phantom have a glass of wine with his wife or should he only stick to milk?

Mythos has started to release news about some new 2022 Fantasma titles to go along with their regular series. This book is titled ‘A Era De Ouro Dos Quadrinhos‘ Translating to ‘The Golden Age of Comics‘ and will feature classic comic strips initially published by King Features Syndicate including stories from the Phantom, Mandrake the Magician, Prince Valiant, Popeye, Jungle Jim, Rip Kirby, Flash Gordon and many more. It will be 268 pages and measuring 20.5cm x 27.8cm, with black and white internal pages. We understand the Phantom story will be "Little Toma" the fourth Daily newspaper story by Lee Falk and Ray Moore. Majority of the content will comics but will feature around 20 pages of articles and biography material of the characters included in the book. Great cover by Henrik Sahlström with the Singh logo featuring the Phantom in the middle and important female characters in the small circles. The 1000th Team Fantomen story, and you should really read up before this one, Andreas does a great job of connecting many storylines into this one and the universe feels a bit more tidy for it. Art by Janousz Ordon, I love it! Title "The True Singh brotherhood". And it is a contemporary story mostly about a fallout faction of the brotherhood after Sandal wanted to be president. But also talks a lot about the female Jungle Patrol members. The Team Fantomen reprint of "The Last Emperor" is great, I would have loved to see it in colors. Published by Frew in issue #984 and #1568, about when the 8th Phantom was emperor for a day and got a nice sabre from Joonkar. Then we have a part of a Sunday story from 2017 that was cut off when it was published back in Fantomen 13 2018. Written by Tony DePaul and art by Terry Beatty & Jeff Weigel, it becomes quite short without the second part, but wonderful that we got it to Fantomen! Finally the Duncan Munro story "Hero Complex" with art by Jeff Weigel, I guess Australians need no introduction but it is a great story about some issues Rex is having when he tries to be a fair ruler. French director and actor Norbert Moutier (1941-2020) was an avid Phantom reader. Or how else should we interpret the content of his massive collection of comic books? What separates Moutier from many other collectors is that he produced many of the items in the collection himself. From 1946 to 1960, Moutier created close to 1000 comics and a total of 14,000 pages. Only between the years of 1957 and 1960 he produced roughly 120 comics and a total of 5 000 pages. This implies that Moutier finalized more than 4,5 pages per day during this period. Each comic also contains self-made cross words, advertisements for his other comics and invented letter pages. Moutier’s home-made comics was recently exhibited at the University of Ghent in Belgium in late November 2021. As can be seen from the attached photographs, the majority of his comics were more or less discrete copies of already existing characters. For example Zorro has been given a new life by Moutier’s pen and so also the Lone Ranger. However, a character that seems to have struck a chord with Moutier is the Phantom – or the Demon as he is called in Moutier’s version. Regardless of name, the mask and the suit are all too recognizable. Based on drawings of the Demon’s overcoat when leaving the jungle to walk the streets of the town like an ordinary man, Wilson McCoy seems to have been a great inspiration. The Phantom first appearance in France was in 1938 in the comic series Aventures et Mystère, recognizable by its oversized format. The Ghost Who Walks was awarded his own comic in 1949 under the name of Le Fantôme.

To be honest when I heard the lineup of stories they did not excite me that much, seeing it is only newspaper Dail stories. But when reading through them I think the coloring really lifts them to a new level and I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. "The Swamp Dragon" by Lee Falk and Sy Barry is not one of their best, but enjoyable, I was a bit confused by the translation choice made by Ulf back in the day to alternate between monster and dragon, when the original always said dragon. The facsimile copy of the 1971 album which featured Lee Falk and Sy Barry stories "The Golden People" and "The Missing Link" is great as I said last year that we are in the years with full color albums. The extra unpublished Rolf Gohs cover and a short “in memorial” is a great addition to make it memorial. Photos have started to emerge around social media of eager fans getting their hands on the Fantomen 2021 Christmas Album which is the longest ongoing Phantom publication in the world. The first was published in 1944. Cover artist Henrik Salhstrom again delivers a striking bold eye catching cover with the Phantom battling a tiger. Henrik has been the cover artist for the Christmas albums since 2016. While the magazine is not yet available at the time of this article published on some websites like adlibris.com and dintidning.se, it is available at local shops along with the other Semic Christmas albums. By now most phans will have seen the Iron Studios Phantom with Devil figurine through out social media. It is now available for pre order via the Iron Studios website but also via some Australian stores. Kaboom comics and Ozzie Collectables are two Australian stores that are now taking pre orders. With a release date of August 2022, we expect more stores will soon also start taking pre orders. Back in October 2019 phantastic Phantom artists Sal Velluto & Eugenio Mattozzi released an A3 print set for the Lucca Comics and Games Convention . Two years later, Sal and Eugenio are back to the convention and also releasing a second print set. There are eight exclusive prints in the collection, produced on high quality 200g Bristol paper. An appealing (11x17; A3) size, the images have been hand-selected by Sal from among the forty or more covers he has had published. The featured covers have previously illuminated books produced by Egmont (Fantomen ). Chronicle Chamber have again been lucky enough to bring in a short number of these prints.
