- X-Band: Phantom Podcast #307 - Phantom story elements
If you are a Phantom nerd, you will like this podcast as Jermayn Parker and Matt Kyme discuss close to 50+ stories as they try and nail down important elements on how to create a good Phantom story. With the Phantom census currently open we are gathering data and information from hundreds of Phantom fans around the world telling us what they like, do not like and want to see happen with their Phantom. We wanted to focus on some of the questions we ask and that is about the stories and what makes them great and enjoyable for us fans. Every so often in between creator interviews and reporting and reviewing all the latest Phantom comics and Phantom news around the world we get to go nerdy. This is one of those cases to go nerdy with Matt Kyme who is both a Phantom phan but also a creator with his Frew created stories and on the Phantom video game. Some of the elements and themes we discuss are about portraying the Phantom properly and not being a purple Batman and or alternative Tarzan character. What themes like mystery, thriller, action and romance work and what doesn't work in our stories. What important lores to include like Old Jungle Sayings, retelling the oath and much more. If you would like to learn more about Matt Kyme, he has joined us on several X-Band: The Phantom Podcasts before, they are: Episode #280: Enter the Phantom Episode #218: Matt Kyme (creator & phan) Episode #247A: Matt Kyme & The Phantom Video Game Sneak Peak Episode #247: Playing in Lee Falk's sandbox Episode #189: Matt Kyme, Shane Foley, Diana & Heartbreak Episode #170: Matt Kyme & his all time favourite Phantom story We love comments and feedback from the Phantom phans from around the world. - X-Band: Phantom Podcast #313 - Sounds from 2025 LFMBEC & Supanova
This podcast includes recordings from the Australian Phantom weekend, including the video from Lauren Marshall, who spoke beautifully at the 2025 LFMBEC dinner. Billy Zane completed many Q&As over the two weeks he was in Australia. He did Q&As at Sydney and Perth Supanova as well as other events at theaters located in Sydney and Melbourne in between the two weekends. Thanks must go to those fans who helped us with these recordings; unfortunately, we at Chronicle Chamber were unable to attend. Please note, these recordings were made onsite on location, so the quality in spots is questionable. Please bear with it as the content is great. As you will find out when you listen to and/or watch this podcast, Lauren has an amazing story, and Billy Zane does indeed have a soft spot for the Phantom. It is almost like every second answer he gave to a question came back to the Phantom somehow. In the Perth Q&A at Supanova, he talked about how he would love to complete a passing of the Phantom mantle to the next actor in a TV show or movie when it happens. We would also like to see that. You? If you know of other Phantom creators attending events around the world, please also contact us. We would love to promote these events on our platforms. If you would like to help us promote Phantom-related guests at conventions and events, please contact us. We love your comments and feedback from the Phantom phans from around the world. You can either email us, leave your comments at our YouTube Channel, and leave them at our social media platforms on Facebook, Twitter and/or Instagram. Make sure you stay with us, and do not forget to subscribe and leave a review on our podcast and/or our YouTube Channel.

- X-Band: Phantom Podcast #319 - Passing the collection mantle on!
If you listen to this podcast, chances are you are obsessed with purple (or blue in Scandinavia, Red in South America etc) and have an unhealthy fetish on all things Phantom. This podcast is something a little different, Jermayn Parker is joined by Sean Bassett and Nick Moles as we chat about collecting. We have interviewed and chatted with a few collectors like Pete Klaus (Episode #88), Jon Cookson (#75), Antonio DiDio (#258), Ohm Roy (#108) and Gary Horne (#64) but one thing we have not addressed much is what happens to our collections when it is time to pass the collection onto the next person? This may sound morbid, but what happens if you are not prepared & your collection is left to your loved ones to deal with? This podcast is to at least start the preparation and/or conversation so you can pass the collection onto the next generation. Some key discussion points we discuss are: The difference between an investment and a hobby What items could be seen as an investment Swedish death cleaning How to sell your collection when that time comes What to do with your collection if you cannot sell it Anything else you would like to see discussed? Let us know and give us your thoughts. You can email us at chroniclechamber@gmail.com or chat with us via our social media profiles on Facebook, Twitter, and/or Instagram. - X-Band: Phantom Podcast #321 - Unpacking Old Jungle Sayings
Following on from X-Band: The Phantom Podcast Episode 307, Jermayn Parker and Matt Kyme explored the many elements that were vital to making a Phantom story something that hits the mark for phans. One of those elements was Old Jungle Sayings, in this podcast we do a deep dive into Old Jungle Sayings! According to DeepWoods.org, a story cannot be a Phantom story without these sayings appearing more than once in a while. These sayings are in many ways responsible for the mystifying aura seen in Phantom stories. We look at what are these Old Jungle Sayings and go over some of our personal favourites or sayings that stick in our memories. There is 100+ in various subtle changes to choose from! We go all nerdy and look at the origins of them in the Phantom universe, from Old Native Sayings to Old Jungle Sayings. We compare them from a cultural impact and psychological role compared to real-life proverbs and religious mantras. The comparison doesn't stop there as we compare our Phantom's Old Jungle Sayings with oral proverbs preserving legendary heroes like Maui the Maori (New Zealand) demigod, and fear-based lore enforcing social norms, which you can see in the Bedouin, Apache, and Amazonian tribes from around the world. Our final step in our nerdom travels down Old Jungle Sayings is we compare this storytelling element to comic characters like Batman, Tarzan, Judge Dredd, Conan, and the famous meme master Chuck Norris. The Phantom is the only character with all of 1) Formally repeated, structured sayings (like folklore or scripture) 2) A generational myth actively maintained by the sayings ("The Phantom never dies") and 3) A tribal culture that embraces and perpetuates the myth as truth Batman and Zorro come close in terms of urban/fear-based mythology but lack the ritualistic repetition and communal cultural buy-in. This may end up being our smartest, most in-depth, and nerdiest Phantom podcast ever! We hope you enjoy it! You can email us at chroniclechamber@gmail.com or chat with us via our social media profiles on Facebook, Twitter, and/or Instagram. We love comments and feedback from the Phantom phans from around the world. Make sure you stay with us, and do not forget to subscribe and leave a review on our podcast on our YouTube channel.

- Review: 'The Phantom vs. The Sky Band #1' from Mad Cave Studios
Following up on The Phantom 5-issue miniseries from Mad Cave Studios, Writer Ray Fawkes returns with another story in this new incarnation of the classic pulp hero. In The Phantom vs. The Sky Band #1, the titular hero tracks down members of the criminal organization after the fallout of the Singh Brotherhood's attack on the Bandar Village. It's a bigger, 40-page comic book one-shot that packs more of a punch, and it's the first of three known one-shot follow-up stories. Credits for the issue are: Title: The Phantom vs. The Sky Band #1 Writer: Ray Fawkes Artist: Federico Sabbatini Colorist: Juancho! Velez Letterer: Taylor Esposito Editor: Sarah Brunstad Main Cover: Federico Sabbatini Alternative Cover: Freddie Williams III Synopsis: THE PHANTOM’S JUSTICE IS SWIFT AND ETERNAL! The Sky Band entered the Phantom’s domain when they took blood money to carry the Singh Brotherhood into Bangalla. They thought their helicopters would make them untraceable, immune. Now the mercenaries for hire will face the Phantom’s wrath. Those who survive…will be irreparably MARKED. The Phantom vs. The Sky Band #1 main cover by Federico Sabbatini How Does This Compare to the Original Sky Band? This version of the Sky Band is less a band of daring, aerial thieves and more a criminal logistics enterprise, one that can plan, supply, and transport criminals around the globe. It's also a smaller, more tight-knit crew, consisting of only 5 members, including the villainous Baroness. For great reviews and walkthroughs of the original Sky Band story, check out Pirate Dave's and Matt Kyme's reviews below: Does Sala Make an Appearance? Yes, Sala is still an integral part of the Sky Band, as well as an important relationship in The Phantom's life. We don't want to spoil it if you haven't read it yet, but the spirit and history of Sala and Phantom are paid tribute. Question for the Phans: What did you think about this one-shot? Would you read more Phantom stories in this one-shot format? Let us know by commenting below this article, on our YouTube, or by dropping us a line. We'd love to hear your thoughts!

- Layoffs at Mad Cave Studios
Mad Cave Studios, US-based publisher of Kings Features-licensed titles The Phantom, Flash Gordon, Dick Tracy, and Defenders of the Earth underwent a round of new layoffs among their marketing and editorial staff. Senior Editor of Creator-Owned Projects James Emmett, Senior Marketing Manager Maya Vee, and Senior Editor Chas! Pangburn is among those who were laid off. For Phantom phans, Chas! Pangburn was one of the editors for both The Phantom and Defenders of the Earth series at Mad Cave Studios. You can read an interview with Chas! Pangburn on our website. This round of layoffs is the third known round within the last year. As reported by ComicsBeat, Mad Cave Studios had previously laid off Maverick senior editor Lauren Hitzhusen and VP of marketing Allison Marie Pond in December 2026. July 2026, the company also underwent a round of layoffs. "These changes were necessary to ensure the long-term health of the company, so that we can continue forward-focused, resilient, and able to invest in the areas that will sustain and grow our business. We're very thankful for the contributions of those affected by these changes, as well as the whole of the Mad Cave team," said Mad Cave Studios President Mark Irwin, as reported by Bleeding Cool. This is extremely sad for the staff at Mad Cave Studios, and for fans of their many publications, it's disheartening and bewildering, as it previously seemed like many of their titles, such as Flash Gordon, Speed Racer, and Dick Tracy, have been performing well. That said, with how hard sales data is to come by, it's anyone's guess how well titles are performing across North America and audiences abroad. The Phantom series by Mad Cave Studios For Phantom phans, it's easy to see the pause this shake-up likely causes. One wonders how long Mad Cave Studios will keep their new take on the Guardian of the Eastern Dark going, especially now that the series has morphed from monthly issues into semi-frequent one-shots for the forseeable future. At Chronicle Chamber, we'll continue to update and report as further news develops.
- Review: 'Phantom 2040: A New Shadow' Episode 18
In Phantom 2040: A New Shadow Episode 17, readers were presented with the primary antagonist's POV leading up to the final battle. In this latest episode, the creative team does the reverse, presenting readers with the new Phantom's (Carlos Oserio) perspective as he fully embraces his destiny and races toward the villain's lair. With only two episodes left, we're hoping for an explosive bout of fisticuffs between these two central figures. Read Phantom 2040: A New Shadow Episode 18 here John Amor, whose art kicked off the Phantom 2040: A New Shadow series, does the creative for this issue, creating a labrynthine, dystopian nightmare-scape that Phantom and Fitzroy descend on their way to Charles Tyrus' lair. As they traverse a seemingly endless tunnel, Phantom speaks with the ghost of his father, Kit Walker Jr. It's a conversation meant to pull at the heartstrings of long-time phans, playing to the audience's understanding and embodiment of what The Phantom means to them. Phantom 2040: A New Shadow Episode 18 art by John Amor Does it hit the mark? We have our opinions, but we'd love to hear from you. Question for the Phans: How do you feel about Kit Walker Jr.'s pep talk? Let us know by commenting below this article, on our YouTube, or by dropping us a line. We'd love to hear your thoughts!

We released a special podcast, X-Band: Phantom Podcast #327 - Remembering Ulf Granberg which you can watch and/or listen to. This special 100-page magazine goes one step further, remembering and honouring his impact. First up is the great cover by Henrik Salhstrom honouring Ulf Granberg as he is sitting amongst his friends in Old Man Mozz, Luaga, The Phantom, Diana, Kit, Heloise, Tomm Tomm, Rex, and Guran. It is interesting noting the age of the children (Kit, Heloise, Rex, and Tomm Tomm), I assume it is because he created so many stories in the 1970s and 1980s with them featured at this age. How many times did we see the Phantom reading something from the chronicles to them at this age? This is the second time Henrik Salhstrom has done a cover like this, honoring a great who has passed. Last time was for Cleas Reimerthi. Included in this issue are three truly classic Phantom stories written by Ulf Granberg and deserving of being reprinted as an honor to him. The stories featured are: "Kapplöpning med döden" ("Race Against Death") by Ulf Granberg and Hans Lindahl "Sir Fantomen - riddare av runda bordet" ("Sir Phantom - Knight of the Round Table") by Ulf Granberg and Jaime Vallvé "Flykten från Djävulsön" ("Escape from Devil's Island") by Ulf Granberg and Heiner Bade What makes this 100-page memorial issue so special is the amount of tributes that have been collected about Ulf Granberg. Editors Jacob Habinc and Andreas Eriksson have done a great job collecting them all. All together there are twelve pages with drawings, photos, tributes, and articles by Nisse Lindberg, Sy Barry, Lennart Moberg, Hasse Lindahl, Robert Aman, Tony DePaul, Jonas Darnell, Patrick Norman, Brian Jensen, Roy Felmang, Mikael Sol, Joan Boix, and Alex Saviuk. Below is a sample of the 12 pages, which are indeed worth reading and looking at. This image from 1985 says it all, as he was truly the editor that was not only directing traffic in Sweden but also in Australia, the USA, and many more countries around the world. For those playing along at home, the creators featured are (left to right): Georges Bess, Knut Westad, Ozcan Eralp, Donne Avenell, Norman Worker, Kari Leppanen, Hans Lindahl, Dai Darell, Michael Tierres (Claes Remerthi) and Jaime Vallve.
