    Fantomet Softcover Books Sales Unimpressive

Kjetil Johnsen, the editor of comics from Egmont Norway recently posted on a comics related Norwegian Facebook group (link here) about the future of the Fantomet Softcover Book after the first two issues was released in 2019. The sales was quoted as been 'unimpressive' by what they had budgeted and hoped for. This is sad as 2018 and early 2019 saw the regular monthly Fantomet magazine being cancelled and long standing newspapers ceasing printing the newspaper stories. This is

History of the Presidents of Bengalla

For those who came in late In the daily story "The Mysterious Ambassador" (Frew #1101 - 1995 & Fantomen 6/1996) Bengali was reformed into a republic, the people wanted Lamanda Luaga as their president but General Bababu tried to take the power. The Phantom however stopped Bababu. Ever since then Luaga has been the president. At least according to the Daily and Sunday strips. But there is another side to that coin which is Team Fantomen. Fantomet with an Australian flavour

In a huge breakthrough for Australia's Frew Publications, one of their locally commissioned stories has been published by an international comic book producer. This is the first time this has happened in Frew's 71-year history. Hero Complex, penned by Duncan Munro, illustrated by Jeff Weigel, and published in Frew #1832, has been made available to Norwegian audiences by Egmont in issue 2 of their Nye Fantomet historier magazine, released earlier this month. The story has been

    Introducing Bane Kerac: Serbian Artist

Bane Kerac is a name many Phantom phans may not know but is a giant throughout many European countries including his homeland of Serbia. Bane only has one full Team Fantomen Phantom story to his credit along with a trading card in the recent Phanfare 2019 gallery card series. However as you will read, in a sliding doors moment, he could easily have been a house hold name for us Phantom phans. Chronicle Chamber: Can you tell us about yourself? A Wake for Fantomet

Last week a group of Norwegian phans met to celebrate the 54-year run of Fantomet magazine, and commiserate its demise at the end of 2018. Arranged by phan Kristian Hellesund, the wake took place in the cellar of Barbarista, the pub run by May Vik Medås (partner of Lightning Strike Comics author Arild Wærness). The venue features an open space in front of a stage, as well as a bar. With a Phantom cosplayer and a number of The Phantom and Fantomet creators on deck, the mood wa

Norwegian Phans React to the Cancellation of their Fantomet

The cancellation of a comic book publication that has been running for over five decades was always going to be big news, and in the world of the Phantom the ramifications are beginning to sink in. Fantomet is dead. The iconic Norwegian Fantomet magazine, running for 54 years, has been cancelled. The Phantom is iconic in Norway; according to legend, a resistance password during the WWII occupation by Nazi Germany was 'Fantomet'. The population of Norway may only be 5.25 milli

Lee Falk on the Team Fantomen Origin Stories

Have you listened to Episode 97 of X-Band: The Phantom Podcast - the Ulf Granberg interview? If so, no doubt you have learnt a lot and may also have been intrigued by his comments when we asked about Lee Falk's opinions about Semic* stories. While of course Lee Falk's work provides the core of The Phantom canon, there are many disputes as to what else can be regarded as 'true' Phantom Lore. Scandinavian authors published stories on the origin of both of the Phantom's rings, a

Janusz Ordon is from Poland and mainly known for his work on Clive Barker's Hellraiser, but soon will be known as a Phantom artist for the amazing work in his debut issue. Janusz has another Phantom connection, as he worked on the comic series Iron Dragon, written by Fantomen writer Philip Madden. Today, ChronicleChamber i

The Story Behind the Censoring of Frew 1817

Please note that we will be touching upon adult themes in this article. Censoring in comics is such a negative word that tends to leave a bad aftertaste in everyone's mouth. However, is it always a bad thing? Frew and the Phantom have had a history of censoring. Some of the earliest Ray Moore stories, notably The Phantom Goes to War, were altered prior to publication as a comic book for Australian audiences. For instance, Diana being tied up in front of a cannon on a ship's d
