Brazilian publisher Mythos Editora has announced a reprint Phantom TPB collection to be released in March 2026. It is currently available for pre order via their website for R$85 ($23AUD, $16USD, €14 EURO150 sek/nok). Buy your copy via their website This is a reprint of an earlier 2016 hardcover collection. This release will be a cheaper softcover album with a new cover and a few extras, including a copy of Jeff Parker 's complete original script for issue 1, character sketches, a complete cover gallery, and more. It will be interesting if they release the other Dynamite Entertainment series, including The Last Phantom drawn by Brazilian artist Eduardo Ferigato ( read our interview with him here), on top of the other collections they have released, including Hermes Press , Marvel , Charlton, and Fratelli Spada . From what we have been told, the Defenders of the Earth TV series was very popular with fans in Brazil, and we speculate that after this new release will see the new Mad Cave Studios series published next. Long before the rise of the DC/Marvel superheroes, the Phantom was already serving justice in his mask and costume in the jungle and on the beaches of the fictional country of Bangalla. As a child reading these stories in the 1990s, I was amazed by this world filled with pirates, modern-day criminals, a masked muscular guy who could solve anything, and a skull-and-skeleton jungle setting. Consumer demand for nostalgia led to the Hungarian re-release of a collector's edition in 2024. This also shows the uniqueness of the Hungarian market: while in Australia and the northern countries, new stories are still being published today with accompanying merchandise, and there is even a Phantom 2040 out there, in which the grandson of our contemporary Phantom takes on the gray costume, here the publisher only dared to take on the "classic" era, and only on an experimental basis, meaning they will publish more if the need arises. Reading it today as an adult, both the character portrayal and the storytelling seem naive. The Phantom's horse and wolf appear repetitively again and again, and the biggest conflict is that drugs are being smuggled in the harbor using dolphins—all of which have a peacefully calming effect in today's world full of epidemics and wars. Thus, this collection resulted in quite a few weekend afternoons spent dozing off—in a good way, because I really liked the meticulous story building and the always happy endings. This first volume contains five classic black and white Lee Falk and Sy Barry stories, of which I liked the most action-filled, “ The Mystery of the Island of Dogs ” the best, due to its current time connection and pace of the events unfolding. The first volume is no longer available from the publisher Bubi Bolt , only from secondary distributors at a much higher price. At 5500 HUF, the 256-page publication, with its high-quality printing and translation, was well worth the price. The poor Norwegians have had no luck in the last 8 years with their Phantom comic. For those who have come in late, here is a brief synopsis of their chequered recent history. In 2018 the regular magazine, after 1200+ issues, was cancelled. ( read more ) In 2019, an album-magazine series only lasted 2 issues. ( read more ) In 2021, the yearly album started again but stopped again in 2024. In 2023, the Fantomet Kronologisk series stopped after 28 issues, starting in 2017. ( read more ) In 2025, the regular magazine started again but only lasted 3 issues. ( read more ) Below are the three issues that were released in 2025. In late January 2026, Fantomet posted on their Facebook by their editorial team that the magazine has now been cancelled. Fellow Phantom friends! We have bad and good news: The newly launched series is unfortunately closed due to high production costs and low sales. Therefore, there will be no album 20. February, as we advertised. Thanks to all of you who have bought the magazine! In return, we are planning a larger Phantom release later this year, and we will return to that. The first 5-issue arc for The Phantom by Mad Cave Studios wrapped up in February 2026. While there was no 6th issue planned, Ray Fawkes , the writer behind the first 5 issues, was set to continue with The Phantom vs. The Sky Band #1 , alongside artist Federico Sabbatini , colorist Juancho Velez , and letterer Taylor Esposito . In The Phantom vs. The Sky Band #1 , the titular hero would battle against the gang of aerial bandits, who were first introduced in November 1936. In Mad Cave Studios ' current iteration of The Phantom, the Sky Band pilots were shown working alongside the Singh Brotherhood in the first 5-issue arc. After The Phantom vs. The Sky Band #1 debuts on April 22, 2026, there seemed to be no further plans to expand upon this new world the creative team was building... until now . Book publisher Simon & Schuster just listed a deluxe hardcover for The Phantom Vol. 1 , which collects The Phantom vs . The Sky Band #1 and two other, unnamed one-shots from Mad Cave Studios that we can only presume are releasing sometime after April. While this deluxe hardcover is listed as "Volume 1," it's not to be confused with The Phantom Vol. 1 trade paperback set to release on July 14, 2026. Whereas that volume collects the 5-issue miniseries, this hardcover collects all three planned one-shots. What Does This Mean? Good news for The Phantom's stint at Mad Cave Studios , we hope. The fact that we have TWO volume 1 collections coming out suggests that there are more storylines planned for this character. We can only presume that the creative team at Mad Cave Studios is looking to build out their Phantom universe with more multi-issue storylines, as well as one-shots, that grow upon the foundation established in the first 5-issue run. There are a lot of story threads to follow, and with the way The Phantom #5 ended , it truly feels like a rich new world is carefully being pieced together. Furthermore, if the company's handling of pulp newspaper strip contemporaries like Flash Gordon or Dick Tracy is any indication, wherein each character has a primary book with the occasional one-shot or quarterly title, we can hopefully anticipate more Phantom stories being worked on behind the scenes, with maybe a more consistent release schedule in the coming year. Christian Moller  reviews the fourth Austrian Phantom comic from the newest magazine series from Art:9 . The magazine was first released in shops at the end of January 2026. This is the first time that these stories have been published not only in Austria but also in Germany and Switzerland, where this series is also available for sale. Spoiler warning! This is a behind-the-scenes account of “ The Magician’s Curse ”, one of the stories in Frew’s 2026 Annual. Make sure you read the comic first as we will be discussing spoilers. I had already illustrated a Phantom two-parter (" The Pinstripe Wizards " published in Frew #1956 and #1957 ) written by Jason Franks and thought it would be exciting to do a Mandrake story as well. In my mind, they always go together! I grew up reading the newspaper strip reprints, and they often shared the magazine. I wish they’d teamed up more often! I loved them both. As a boy, I wanted to grow up and be like the Ghost Who Walks, strong and brave. As I grew older, I learned to appreciate Mandrake too, a man using his mind to solve problems (not to mention the dashing mustache). As I cannot write, back in 2023, I asked my friend Jeff Dyer to come up with a script. Jeff is an accomplished writer whose stories have been published in Peanuts and Heavy Metal and who also penned his own graphic novels such as Every Waking Moment and MediSIN . It was Jeff who created Drayke, Mandrake’s doppelganger and the villain of the story. Now, Mandrake fans will tell you he has already fought his evil twins. In fact, lots of the stories! It's a recurring theme! His brother, his stepbrother, this random impersonator... and the Mirror People. The latter sound amazing but are awful. Mandrake's mirror image is evil, whereas Lothar's is (wait for it) white. The opposite of good is evil, the opposite of black is white... Ugh. Such a can of worms. But I loved Jeff’s take! Drayke is part of Mandrake... He is Mandrake without the "MAN" part! He's the beast within. “Drake” also means “dragon” or "serpent," so I added the snake motif. Jeff came up with the roots motif. You may have realized that chapter 2 was written first. It opens with the image of a mandragora (i.e. Mandrake) being pulled out of the ground. Mandrake’s roots don’t go deep. His origin kept changing. His father was Grando, no wait, it was Theron, his mother was not mentioned, no wait… Also, in their early adventures, Mandrake and Lothar often wander the world, without a secret base or a place to call home. Unlike the Phantom, whose origin was explained early on and is vital to his story. In fact, it’s often repeated “for those who came in late." Twenty generations… The Phantom’s roots go deep. He knows who he is, and Drayke’s tricks can’t change that. Mandrake gets slowed down by roots in the final battle. Even in the very last scene, his portal is hovering, whereas the Phantom is depicted among the tree roots of his home. Originally, part two was pitched as a standalone story to Frew . The editor liked it but explained it needed to be a team-up. It sounded like a dream come true! After it received King Features approval, Andrew Constant started to script the beginning and the ending. I love the introduction; the face in the mirror is such a red herring. But the third act is the crux of the story. Is it too much for the Phantom fans? Those who enjoy superheroes are used to crossovers. If you think about it, Superman and Batman shouldn’t even exist in the same world. However, DC Comics has published hundreds of issues of World’s Finest, their team-up title. Readers know aliens can land in Gotham any minute, although nowadays no such thing would happen in the Batman solo book. Similarly, the Phantom might encounter a stegosaur or little people, but it’s mostly a realistic title. On the other hand, Mandrake is an “anything goes” strip: there are aliens, time travelers, and wizards in common accordance. To the phans who think none of it belongs in this book, I’d say, "Don't worry, none of it actually happened; it was all an illusion." Mandrake fans know anything is possible, and it was all real. For example, I’m not sure whether Andrew wanted “Ghosts Who Walk” to be actual ghosts or not. I kept it vague in my drawings for the reasons above. When they appeared, I could’ve drawn Walker’s Table or the Mawitaan skyline in the background, but I felt it would have been too specific. By keeping it vague, we can have our cake and eat it too. Such details kept changing along the way. Andrew wrote a great battle of the magicians, very cinematic, but I wasn’t confident enough to try depicting lightning in motion, so I drew illusions instead. Here we can see Mandrake’s worst fears. In the end, I hope readers will see it as a fun comic, whether it’s canon or not. The one thing I’m sorry we didn’t get to do is a chapter where the Phantom shows he’s a badass. He’s a master marksman, fighter, and tracker, but he didn’t get to do enough. Jeff Dyer and I submitted another eight-page chapter in which the Ghost Who Walks fights his own evil twin. I call him the Ghoul Who Walks ! Sadly, either there was no time or it didn’t fit, so it didn’t happen. Oh well. Here’s hoping… Below is a sample of them fighting each other. Thanks for reading! It has been great to see many fans and some publishers make a splash for the 90th birthday of the Phantom. The canvas print is crafted from 100% premium cotton canvas and framed with durable poplar wood in your choice of walnut or black finish. It comes in three different sizes (and price points) of 6" x 6", 10" x 10" and 12" x 12". From what we understand, this items is ONLY available for shipping in the USA. While it is good to see Sy Barry featured on one of their items in the Phantom line, this canvas print to me feels a little neglected for a 90th birthday celebration. It would have been nice to see something else and a bigger splash from King Features (aka Comics Kingdom ) as well as some of the other publishers like Frew , Fantomen, and Mad Cave Studios getting into the act. For example, King Features  created a cool logo for the 90th birthday, but we have yet to see it on any comics or new Phantom products, which is disappointing. The Frew annual for 2026 is now out in shops throughout Australia, which features several crossover stories featuring the Phantom and Mandrake the Magician, both created by Lee Falk . One of the stories, " Still Lovely, Still Deadly " created by Fred Fredericks has a week missing on how it was originally created in the Frew annual. Attached is the final week of the story, which includes another cameo of the Phantom. No official word on why this week was missed. It could be a simple mistake, or it could be due to a space restraint. It is a pity, as the last week wraps up the story with two potential sequel stories with a new relative to battle with Mandrake and Lothar teaming up with the Phantom to fight those drug runners. Perhaps the funniest aspect of this story was Lothar getting a ticket for breaking the law, which was also missed in the comic book publication.

To celebrate the Phantom's 90th birthday, we got several phans and creators to wish the Phantom a happy birthday, which we collected together for our X-Band: The Phantom Podcast, which you can watch and/or listen to here. Included in the podcast to wish the Phantom a 90th birthday was Daniel from Saturday Morning Cards . In 2025, he released the very first set of collectible art cards that was popular among us phans but also among card and pop culture collectors. In his video, which is included below, he dropped an exclusive bombshell for us that 2026 will also see volume two released. In exciting news, The Phantom, the Hungarian comic publisher Bubi Bolt and Sy Barry will be featured at the Budapest (Hungary) Comic Con on March 21-22, 2026. The Hungarian comic publisher Bubi Bolt in August 2024 started to reprint the Sy Barry daily stories in hardcover format and at the Comic Con convention will release volume two, which will cover the stories from 1963 to 1965 created by the dynamite duo Lee Falk and Sy Barry . At the moment, the number of pages included in this volume has not been confirmed, but the list of stories has been. Volume two will contain the 87th to 93rd Phantom daily stories. Daily story #87: " The Drummer of Timpenni ". Started on 16 December 1963 and ended on 21 March 1964. Daily story #88: " The Reef ". Started on 23 March 1964 and ended on 27 June 1964. Daily story #89: " The Adventures of Lucy Cary ". Started on 29 June 1964 and ended on 12 December 1964. Daily story #90: " The Bad Ones ". Started on 14 December 1964 and ended on 17 April 1965. Daily story #91: " The Hanta Witch ". Started on 19 April 1965 and ended on 31 July 1965. Daily story #92: " Prince Hali and the White Stallion ". Started on 2 August 1965 and ended on 1 January 1966. Daily story #93: "Bullets' Town". Started on 3 Jan 1966 and ended on 28 May 1966. On top of this new volume being available, Budapest Comic Con and publisher Bubi Bolt have organized a prerecorded interview with legendary artist Sy Barry,  which will be shown throughout the event on both days for fans to watch. Bubi Bolt has confirmed that any copies of volume two that did not sell will be made available to purchase via their online store from April 2026.
