  • X-Band: Phantom Podcast #301 - Frew 2025 Annual Review

The 2025 Frew annual deserves a stand alone review and we spend a good 70 minutes dissecting it. The theme for this years annual is a monster theme with 8 stories with a mixture of colour & black and white over 220+ pages. What do we like, what do we not like and what rating do we give it? Listen and or watch and find out. Do not remember to let us know what you agree and or disagree with. Annuals are nothing new from around the world with British comics publishing them in hardcover albums during the 1950’s to the 1980’s as well as other countries publishing them. Frew published their first annual in 1991 and it was an instant hit. Frew published their first one in 1991 and it was an instant hit. Rumours are that it sold out overnight and many collectors bought dozens as investments. Ever since, Frew has released an annual. Bar the odd year (3?), a replica edition of the Frew comics have been released. Loved by some and loathed by others but they are a staple along with the annual. Since the Frew Crew has stood in the gap left by Jim Shepherd, they have released themed annuals with War, artists, Girl Phantom, Cowboy Phantoms, Animals of Edan and now its The Phantom vs The Monsters. For those who want to cherry pick there way through the podcast, we have listed what we disscused and the time stamps. We would however suggest you listen / watch to the whole podcast ;) History & background of the Frew annuals: 2 Minutes Overall thoughts on the annual: 4 Minutes & 30 Seconds Stories "The Ghost and the Wolves" by Andrew Constant and Jason Paulos: 17 Minutes & 30 Seconds "Nema" by Andrew Constant and Jason Paulos: 24 Minutes "Looking Back" by Andrew Constant and Giancarlo Caracuzzo: 29 Minutes "Golem" by Johan L. Borgnes and Hans Lindahl: 36 Minutes "Kuma the Creature" by Felmang: 40 Minutes & 30 Seconds "The Mummy's Curse" by Janne Lundström and Jaime Vallvé: 50 Minutes "The Vampire in Carpatia" by Ulf Granberg and Jaime Vallvé: 54 Minutes & 30 Seconds "Creature from the Black" by Dean Rankine and Marcelo Baez: 1 Hour Our score of the annual: 1 Hour, 4 Minutes & 30 Seconds We love comments and feedback from the Phantom phans from around the world. • X-Band: Phantom Podcast #305 - With Marcelo Baez

Jermayn Parker is on his own as he talks to Chilean born Australian raised Marcelo Baez who is a Frew cover artist who has also drawn one short story so far. This is a fascinating chat with a new comer to the Phantom universe who brings an unique style to his covers. He also shows us his new Phantom cover which will be out in the next month. We go over his career, the reason why there was a five year hiatus between his first and second Frew cover and just how many skulls did he manage to sneak into the Frew #1969 cover. How many can you find? Let us know. You can follow Marcelo Baez at his Instagram, or look at his work on his website. If you have a kid in the Wollongong area who likes to draw, we would recommend looking at his art classes. He also has his original artwork for his covers for sale. • X-Band: Phantom Podcast #307 - Phantom story elements

If you are a Phantom nerd, you will like this podcast as Jermayn Parker and Matt Kyme discuss close to 50+ stories as they try and nail down important elements on how to create a good Phantom story. With the Phantom census currently open we are gathering data and information from hundreds of Phantom fans around the world telling us what they like, do not like and want to see happen with their Phantom. We wanted to focus on some of the questions we ask and that is about the stories and what makes them great and enjoyable for us fans. Every so often in between creator interviews and reporting and reviewing all the latest Phantom comics and Phantom news around the world we get to go nerdy. This is one of those cases to go nerdy with Matt Kyme who is both a Phantom phan but also a creator with his Frew created stories and on the Phantom video game. Some of the elements and themes we discuss are about portraying the Phantom properly and not being a purple Batman and or alternative Tarzan character. What themes like mystery, thriller, action and romance work and what doesn't work in our stories. What important lores to include like Old Jungle Sayings, retelling the oath and much more. If you would like to learn more about Matt Kyme, he has joined us on several X-Band: The Phantom Podcasts before, they are: Episode #280: Enter the Phantom Episode #218: Matt Kyme (creator & phan) Episode #247A: Matt Kyme & The Phantom Video Game Sneak Peak Episode #247: Playing in Lee Falk's sandbox Episode #189: Matt Kyme, Shane Foley, Diana & Heartbreak Episode #170: Matt Kyme & his all time favourite Phantom story We love comments and feedback from the Phantom phans from around the world. • X-Band: Phantom Podcast #313 - Sounds from 2025 LFMBEC & Supanova

This podcast includes recordings from the Australian Phantom weekend, including the video from Lauren Marshall, who spoke beautifully at the 2025 LFMBEC dinner. Billy Zane completed many Q&As over the two weeks he was in Australia. He did Q&As at Sydney and Perth Supanova as well as other events at theaters located in Sydney and Melbourne in between the two weekends. Thanks must go to those fans who helped us with these recordings; unfortunately, we at Chronicle Chamber were unable to attend. Please note, these recordings were made onsite on location, so the quality in spots is questionable. Please bear with it as the content is great. As you will find out when you listen to and/or watch this podcast, Lauren has an amazing story, and Billy Zane does indeed have a soft spot for the Phantom. It is almost like every second answer he gave to a question came back to the Phantom somehow. In the Perth Q&A at Supanova, he talked about how he would love to complete a passing of the Phantom mantle to the next actor in a TV show or movie when it happens. We would also like to see that. You? If you know of other Phantom creators attending events around the world, please also contact us. We would love to promote these events on our platforms. If you would like to help us promote Phantom-related guests at conventions and events, please contact us. We love your comments and feedback from the Phantom phans from around the world. You can either email us, leave your comments at our YouTube Channel, and leave them at our social media platforms on Facebook, Twitter and/or Instagram.
