As most Phantom phans are undoubtedly aware, the summer of 2019/2020 was brutal in Australia . The aim of the Phantom Preservation Project, or P3 for short, is to preserve The Phantom history. In particular, we are preserving that which can be digitised and thus easily accessed by phans. Videos, newsletters, audio, artwork, video games... anything we can! Introduction: The aim of the Phantom Preservation Project , or P3 for short, is to preserve The Phantom history. In particular, we are preserving that which can be digitised and thus easily accessed by phans. Videos, newsletters, audio, artwork, video games... anything we can! All of the content featured in P3 is out of print/production and is not accessible through any current store (not including eBay or other collectable/second hand-type stores). This includes things such as old Phantom phan club newsletters, newspaper articles, video and music that was released decades ago, and much more. There is a lot of Phantom stuff out there, so this is an ever-growing resource! You can check out everything that is currently in the P3 by clicking here to see the Index . This is a living link, constantly growing and always up-to-date. Note: This is NOT the place to find free Phantom comics, but rather items that would most likely never be reproduced but still hold a value historically for phans and the legacy of Lee Falk's hero. Patreon: In order to gain access to P3 you must be subscribed to the $5 tier on our Patreon fund . While we would of course love to offer all of this free to phans, the fact is that providing all of these files uses a considerable amount of hosting space, which of course costs money. One of the reasons we haven't been able to provide a service like P3 until recently was due to that very cost, which was prohibitive to us until our wonderful patrons began donating and allowed us the funds to make it a reality. As you can see by the various goals we have set over there, all funds gained from Patreon go straight back into the site so don't worry, we're not using it to fund our collections. Once you have joined the Patreon you will be provided with the link you need to access P3 and the various files hosted within. Thank You: We hope that P3 is of interest to all phans and visitors to the site. We are adding files every month, and over time ware building the most comprehensive archive of out-of-print Phantom media. If you have any questions, we have not answered yet, please contact us at chroniclechamber@gmail.com . How much is my (or my relatives) collection worth? Looking to sell my collection An item is only worth as much as what someone is willing to pay for it. The other option is if you want an impartial valuation, please email us. We can help give you an idea on prices. How Much are Australian Frew Comics Worth? It all depends on condition. A good website to give you an idea on what your Frews are worth is ComicsPriceGuide.com (Frew list here). If you have any Frew comics under #50 or #100 we would suggest an independant value on them. A mint Frew can easily top $30,000 but a replica issue will only reach $50 tops. If you would like to contact us about getting a value or finding an independant value on them, please email us. I live in the USA, How can I Get Frew Comics?" You can buy direct from Frew Publications via their website here or you can buy via Harley Slavik which is a comic book distribution company based in the USA. You can order and visit their website or their Facebook account. I live in India, How can I Get Frew Comics?" With Fantomen and Frew producing over 4,000 comics together and with close to 2,000 different stories published it can be a daunting task. Over on this page, the team of Chronicle Chamber (Jermayn Parker, Mikael Lyck, Dan Fraser & Stephen East) have collected a strong 100+ stories which we believe are a must read. Go visit here for the full list and what comics they have been published in. If you think we are missing any stories, let us know - this list aim is to be updated regularly. We also recommend the Phantomwiki as they have short summeries on majority of the stories. What is the official cannon? There is no "official lore" by King Features and or Hearst the managing companies that own the rights to the Phantom. However, majority of Phans have an unofficial cannon which is the stories created by co-creator Lee Falk between 1936 and his death in 1999. The other stories created by Team Fantomen, Frew, RGE, Moonstone and the newspaper stories created post Lee Falk's generally do not contradict the unofficial cannon too much. The debate sits were phans see these collection of stories and whether they sit within or alongside the lore. Why is the phantom different colors? The Phantom's official costume is a purple body suit, cowl; blue trunks with diagonal stripes, a black leather gun belt with a death's head skull on front, black domino mark and riding boots. Throughout the publishing history of the Phantom, various comic book publishers have changed the colour of his uniform. For example, the colour is red in France, Italy, Spain and Brazil, almost a bluish-silver during the early years in Scandinavia before blue with yellow striped trucks and a yellowish-brown in New Zealand. The Phantom began life in a black and white daily newspaper strip on 17 February 1936. Various panels had the word grey desribing the Phantoms colour. Which artists accept commissions and sell original Phantom artwork? Most current Phantom creators sell their original artwork and are open for commissions. Your best bet is to contact them via their social media accounts or websites. Here is a list of creators: Sy Barry Jeff Weigel Mike Manley Jason Paulos Paul Mason Jamie Johnson Shane Foley Alex Saviuk Wendell Cavalcanti Joan Boix Rafael Dantas Luke McDonnell Lou Manna Massimo Gamberi Luca Erbetta Sal Velluto If you know of any other Phantom artists who are available for commissions, please let us know. How old is the current phantom? Comic years are different than real life years. The Phantom was in his early 20's in 1936 which would make him around 110 today if based on real life years. In comic years, The Phantom would be around 43 to 45. We would assume The Phantom married at 25-ish to Diana Palmer his childhood sweetheart and they had twins Kit and Heloise a year later. The twins are now around 17-18 in todays stories. Of course, in the comics world, there are always going to be wrinkles for any timeline you set. For example Rex who was found by the 21st Phantom, yet was at least 8 years old when he married to Diana. The debate will continue. Where can i get the latest news about the Phantom? Chronicle Chamber is the best source as we cover Phantom news from all around the world. You can either get the latest news from our website or via our social media platforms for the latest news, interviews with creators, podcasts and much more. Twitter Facebook Instagram YouTube Podcast Is there a new movie or TV Show in the works? At this stage officially, no! However who knows what is bubblinb in the background. There was two sequels destined after the 1996 Billy Zane movie which never happened. In 2008 writer and director Tim Boyle wrote a two part Phantom movie script featuring the 22nd Phantom in Kit and Heloise. This movie was very close to being created. We recommend watching/listening to two podcasts that touch upon these movies. Podcast #133: Billy Zane Podcast #176: Tim Boyle Where can I read The Phantom dailies and Sundays on-line? Comics Kingdom is the King Features Syndicate website which shows the daily and or Sunday newspaper strip for that day. The Phantom Trial is a phan created website which shows a month of Sunday strips or a week of daily strips at a time which can be handy to read. A third option is the digital newspaper Seattle PI (Post Intelligencer) which has a larger free archive unlike other sources. What newspapers / comic book are currently running the Phantom? The main comic publishers of the Phantom which are Frew Publications from Australia publishing from 1948 to current with over 1800 issues Fantomen from Egmont publishing from 1950 to current with over 1700 issues. Hermes Press currently publish reprint stories in hardcover format with the Sunday and Daily newspaper stories from 1936 to present. Regal Publishers from India are publishing in colour and in english. Kockás from Hungary. Comics Revue from USA. Many newspapers still publish the Phantom. This may not be a complete list, so if you know of any others, please let us know. Frew replica issue one and two are the hardest to identify. Replica issue three has a small R in the cufflink of Mister Hog. From replica issue four onwards the words "Replica Issue" generally next to the M on the Phantom title logo. The following has been sourced from Deepwoods.org. If you want more information, we recommend looking there. Replica Issue One The most obvious difference between the original and replica is the colour of the Phantom's costume; it is very light purple in the original and a dark purple in the replica. The most reliable method is to turn the front cover and look at the inside title page. The original had a line of text at the bottom of the page which says "Printed by ROTARY COLORPRINT CO. PTY. LTD., 15 Hamilton St., Sydney, for the publishers, FREW PUBLICATIONS, 39 Martin Place, Sydney". This line is not present on the replica edition. Replica Issue Two The most immediately obvious difference between the original and replica is the colour of the Phantom's costume; it is very light purple in the original and a dark purple in the replica. The most certain method of identification owes to the fact that the cover image for the replica was enlarged by 3.8%. Therefore, a careful measurement of the height of the red region on the letter "P" of the title "Phantom" from the lowest point to the top (parallel to the spine) should give 116mm for the replica compared with 112mm for the original. Furthermore, the binding on the spine of the replica was positioned very close to the edge of the "P" so that only 1mm of the background is observable between the "P" and the spine. In comparison, the original cover shows 6mm of background to the left of the "P". Again, This information has been sourced from Deepwoods.org. If you want more information, we recommend looking there. Some shops and eBay sellers have started selling the Replica Issues Frew have released from 2014 as single Frew issues. The easiest way to tell a replica from original is that Frew issues below #200 did not have staples. Should I insure my Phantom comic collection? Phantom phan Peter Steven has put together a great insurance fact sheet for all Australian phans. A lot of phans unitentionally have started a collection that is worth insuring. It starts out as just buying the regular comic, then a hobby and then you get to the point that your hobby has become an collection and maybe even an investment. When you get to this point, read the insightful fact sheet from Peter and get your collection insured. How do I store my Phantom comics and trading cards? Phantom phan Nick Moles has done a great video series on how to properly store your Phantom comics and trading cards. Who are the Phantom's Wives? Unfortunately with Lee Falk not keeping records it is not a simple answer with several stories having contradicting wives from both the newspaper and Team Fantomen stories. For example, Lee Falk had both the first and second Phantoms marrying Christopher Columbus' granddaughter Marabella. The best solution is viewing each Phantom on the Phantom Wiki website and they will list all information on each Phantom, plus their adventuries and who they married. - THE PHANTOM FILM | Chronicle Chamber
The 1996 Billy Zane Phantom film The Phantom is a 1996 superhero film directed by Simon Wincer. The film stars Billy Zane as a seemingly immortal crimefighter and his battle against all forms of evil. Principal photography began in October 1995 and concluded on February 13, 1996. The film was shot in California, Thailand, and Australia. The Phantom was released on June 7, 1996, and received mixed reviews from film critics. Despite financial failure in its theatrical release, the film has enjoyed success on VHS, DVD, and Blu-ray and has developed a cult following. Nicholas Brown and Bryan H. Carroll Music by: David Newman Production companies: The Ladd Company, Village Roadshow Pictures and Hearst Entertainment Distributed by : Paramount Pictures Budget: $45-50 million Box office: $23.5 million What is the story of 1996 Billy Zane Phantom film? In the early 16th century, a young boy helplessly witnesses his father killed by Kabai Sengh, the vicious pirate leader of the Sengh Brotherhood, who attacked their ship. The boy jumps overboard and is washed ashore on Bengalla, an Asian island where local tribesmen find him and take him to their village. There he is given the Skull Ring, swears to devote his life to resisting vice and enforcing virtue, and as an adult, adopts the identity of "The Phantom", a masked avenger. The role of The Phantom is passed on from father to son through 400 years, leading people to believe in a single, immortal figure. In 1938, Kit Walker, the 21st Phantom, finds Quill leading a group of grave robbers in the jungle. They are searching a burial place for one of the Skulls of Touganda, which grants its owner a tremendously destructive power. The Phantom saves the native boy they kidnapped to be their guide and captures Quill's men, leaving them for the Jungle Patrol to pick up. Revealed to be a Sengh Brotherhood member and the man who killed Kit's father - whose ghost frequently appears to give Kit advice - Quill flees with the Skull and returns to the United States. In New York City, Kit's college girlfriend, Diana Palmer, is a frequent traveler whose uncle, Dave Palmer, is the famous owner of the World Tribune newspaper. The paper has been investigating power-hungry businessman Xander Drax, a shady character with a reputation for dealing with criminals. Palmer has uncovered Drax's connection to a mysterious spider web symbol, which he traces back to the Bengalla Jungle. He sends Diana to investigate but makes the mistake of telling New York's treacherous police commissioner, who is allied with Drax, of Diana's trip. Drax's female air pirates led by femme fatale, Sala, hijack the plane; Diana is abducted and taken to their waterfront base in Bengalla. Having been informed of Diana's abduction by the Jungle Patrol's captain, Phillip Horton, the Phantom rescues her and escapes from Quill and his men to his headquarters, the Skull Cave. In New York, now dressed as his civilian self, Kit meets with David Palmer at the World Tribune and once again meets with Diana, who has mixed feelings about him since his sudden disappearance several years before. Diana's would-be suitor Jimmy Wells mentions he had seen one of the skulls in the Museum of World History, so Kit and Diana hurry there. Drax and his men capture them, steal the second Skull and unite it with the first, revealing the location of the third Skull on an uncharted island in the Andaman Sea, known as the Devil's Vortex. Kit manages to escape and, as the Phantom, evades the police outside the museum. Meanwhile, after Sala reveals that Diana is the Phantom's girlfriend, she flies Drax, Quill, and Diana to the Devil's Vortex, not knowing that the Phantom has managed to hitch a ride on one of the plane's landing pontoons. On the island, Drax meets with the pirate Kabai Sengh, direct descendant of the Brotherhood's original leader, who possesses the third Skull. Sengh warns Drax of the Fourth Skull's existence, which controls the power of the other three. The Phantom appears and battles both men, with Kabai Sengh killed by sharks, and Diana and Sala cooperate to defeat the other villains. Drax unites the three Skulls and turns their power against the Phantom; Quill is accidentally hit and disintegrated in the process. The Phantom uses the Fourth Skull – his own magic ring – to turn the Skulls' power back against them, destroying them and Drax in a powerful explosion. As the energy causes a volcanic eruption, the Phantom narrowly escapes with Diana and Sala. Returning to Bengalla, Diana reveals to the Phantom that she has figured out his secret and double identity. Kit removes his mask, telling her that he can only disclose all of his secrets to one person, the woman he intends to marry, but she leaves again for New York. Kit's father laments his son's failure to pursue Diana but states that she will return to the Phantom's jungle, and Kit, one day. Who are the cast of the 1996 Billy Zane Phantom film? Billy Zane was a gamer? 1 2 3 4 5 Why didn't we get a sequel to the 1996 Billy Zane Phantom film Billy Zane and Kristy Swanson were originally signed up to do two sequels, but these were not made because of the disappointing sale of tickets for The Phantom in theaters. In 2008, Paramount Pictures was considering creating a sequel to The Phantom, with Zane, Swanson and Zeta-Jones returning in their roles. Instead of the sequel, a reboot of the Phantom was in the works, called The Phantom: Legacy , to be produced by Bruce Sherlock (who was also an executive producer of The Phantom) and written by Tim Boyle. Sam Worthington was rumoured to being considered for the lead role. However in an interview with Tim Boyle, he told Chronicle Chamber that he wasn't considered and instead Liam Hemsworth auditioned for the role twice. By 2014, plans for this film had fallen through as well, and producer Mark Gordon was instead attached to a Phantom reboot. We would recommend watching or listening to our X-Band: Phantom Podcast #324: The Phantom's film & TV rumours, hits & near misses . The Phantom has had some false dawns prior with new TV shows and or films ever since Tom Tyler donned the uniform in 1943. This podcast is going to be a collection of all the rumours, could-have-beens, and failed attempts in the last 70+ year period. Was the 1996 Billy Zane Phantom film based on any original stories? The film features several elements from Lee Falk's first two Phantom stories from the 1936 daily newspaper strips, "The Singh Brotherhood" and "The Sky Band". Several of the characters in the film derive from these stories: Kabai Sengh (played by Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa), leader of the Sengh Brotherhood (the name of the brotherhood was changed to 'Sengh' in the film, to avoid offending people named Singh), Sala (played by Catherine Zeta-Jones), leader of the Sky Band, a group of female air pirates, and Jimmy Wells (Jon Tenney), a wealthy playboy. The other story the film references is the Lee Falk and Wilson McCoy story, which features the death of the 20th Phantom. In the original comic strip adventure, the killer was Rama Singh. In the movie the murderer is Quill (played by James Remar). The chain of patience, a popular addition to the skull throne featured in the 1953 Sunday Story "The Chain" by Lee Falk & Wilson McCoy was also shown. The supernatural "Skulls of Touganda" have never been featured in a Phantom story outside the film. - PHANTOM 2040 | Chronicle Chamber
Phantom 2040 Phantom 2040 is an animated science fiction television series loosely based on the comic strip hero The Phantom, created by Lee Falk. The central character of the series is said to be the 24th Phantom. The unusual character designs are the work of Peter Chung, creator of Æon Flux. The show debuted in 1994 to rave reviews, though it survived only 33 episodes before it was relegated to weekend repeats in 1996. Along with action sequences, stories focused on intelligent plotting and character development, winning the series praise for its subtle teaching of such values as individuality, freedom, and the volatility of humanity. It also spawned comic book tie-ins and other merchandise. What is the story of Phantom 2040? In the year 2040, environmental disasters and the economic Resource Wars of the early 21st century have decimated the fragile ecological balance of an Earth once teeming with life. Everywhere, the privileged and wealthy continue to thrive in expensive real estate developments that tower above the suffering masses. The victims of Earth’s misfortune have been forced to subsist on scavenged refuse from the past on the mangled streets of forlorn city-states. In Metropia (once known as New York City), the largest and most powerful of the city-states, the powerful robotics manufacturing corporation Maximum Inc. has slowly shaped a cold, steely urban center, consisting of huge, residential towers intertwined with TubeTrain tunnels. Maximum's robotic "biots" (Biological Optical Transputer System) have replaced enormous amounts of human labour, and the corporation is illegally producing prohibited combat biots to form Maximum's personal underground army. Maximum has plans to construct the fortress of Cyberville, an immense survival shelter where only the wealthiest and most elite humans will retreat once Earth finally succumbs to its slowly deteriorating state and Maximum's biot armies take control of Metropia. The only hope for the survival of humanity is the Ghost Jungle — thousands of square miles of mutated vegetation that may be the planet's salvation. This secret source of life is submerged beneath Metropia where no one is aware of it, but fortunately, college student Kit Walker Jr. is chosen by fate to save the world, donning the black mask and purple suit of his people’s savior, the 24th Phantom. The role of the Phantom has been passed on from father to son since the 1500s, leading the world to believe that the Phantom is a single immortal individual. Kit, the 24th in the line, is young, unsure, and inexperienced, but he finds within him the courage and might to battle the evil that threatens to destroy the Earth. It stood out in the 1990s for its serialized narratives, character-driven drama, and complex moral questions about technology and humanity, often exceeding the standards of typical 90s action cartoons. All these elements that make the show popular are ingrained into the character ethos of what makes the Phantom special. The main characters of Phantom 2040 & their voice actors The Phantom/ Kit Walker (Voiced by Scott Valentine) Rebecca Madison (Voiced by Margrot Kidder) Guran (Voiced by J. D. Hall) Jack Archer (Voiced by Alan Oppenheimer) Sagan Cruz (Voiced by Leah Remini) Aunt Heloise (Voiced by Carrie Snodgress) Maxwell Madison Jr (Voiced by Jeff Bennett) Graft (Voiced by Ron Perlman (season one) & Richard Lynch (rest of series)) Doctor Jack (Voiced by Mark Hamill) Sean One/ Heisenberg (Voiced by Rob Paulsen) Is Phantom 2040 cyberpunk? Based purely on the definition of cyberpunk, yes, Phantom 2040 is cyberpunk. The definition of cyberpunk is a subgenre of science fiction set in dystopian, high-tech future societies, often summarized as "high tech, low life". It focuses on the juxtaposition of advanced technology—such as artificial intelligence and cybernetics—with societal collapse, rampant urban decay, and corruption by powerful megacorporations. With beautiful painted cell backgrounds and edgy animation, the show features classic dystopian tropes, including a world run by menacing corporations (Maximum Inc.), extreme social inequality, advanced biot armies, and ecological collapse. The series centers on a gritty future where a new Phantom battles to save the world. It is the sound the Guide makes before responding to a question. The Phantom's multi-purpose vehicle was named H.E.R.O. after the comic strip 21st Phantom's horse, Hero. Sagan Cruz, the 24th Phantom's love interest and future police officer, works with a cyborg police dog named D.V.L, a reference to the 21st Phantom's wolf, Devil. In the Phantom 2040 video game, the initials J.P can be found spray-painted on the walls of the subway, which contains the Ghost Jungle, a reference to the Jungle Patrol from the comic strip. For some unknown reason, the Phantom legacy is said to have started in 1566 instead of 1536 as in the comics.
