This is it, Phantom 2040 fans! Episode 20 of Phantom 2040: A New Shadow is the grand finale of what we now know is only the first season for this Comics Kingdom series from writers Alex Segura and Michael Moreci and artists John Amor and George Kambadais. In this concluding episode, The Phantom (Carlos Oserio) battles against his monstrous new nemesis, Anti-Phantom (formerly Charles Tyrus). Meanwhile, Melinda works to shut down Maximum Inc.'s energy transference device that's destroying the Ghost Jungle.
This episode is a colorful display of all of the strengths and high points of Phantom 2040: A New Shadow. The action, paneling, and transitions between scenes have a great rhythm and flow. We close the loop on a few story threads as well. Tyrus has fully transformed into the Anti-Phantom, and Carlos has crossed the last hurdle in order to fully embrace the mantle of The Phantom.
Is the narrative a little clunky? Perhaps. There certainly are some missteps and missing pieces of the puzzle, but for all of the criticism we've expressed for this series, the high points exceed the low. With season two incoming, we're eager to see where the creative team takes this new cast of characters, especially they have been established.
