Did you miss the first 5 issues of The Phantom from Mad Cave Studios? This series, which launched with The Phantom taking on the Singh Brotherhood, has been collected in a digital and physical trade paperback edition.
Back when The Phantom #1 released, controversy ignited across the fandom, as Kit Walker's face was revealed in a few panels during a Skull Cave sequence with Diana Palmer. We covered this controversy in our X-Band: The Phantom Podcast review of the issue.
The fantastic team at Mad Cave Studios listened to feedback from the fans, and in the following issues of the series, The Phantom's face was hidden behind shadows. In this new collected edition of The Phantom Vol. 1, these early panels from the first issue have been updated. Shadows obscure Kit Walker's face, in keeping with classic Ghost Who Walks tradition. You can learn more about this decision in our latest interview with series artist Russell Olson.
The Phantom Vol. 1 Details
Writer: Ray Rawkes
Artist: Russell Olson
Letterer: Taylor Esposito
Synopsis: THE GHOST WALKS AGAIN! The Phantom returns! Created by Lee Falk in 1936, the Phantom is one of the first costumed super heroes in history, with untold influence on pop culture. Now, critically-acclaimed creators Ray Fawkes and Russell Olson revive the character for fans old and new. When a violent gang of smugglers stubbles on an idyllic Bandar village, the peace that the Phantom has brought to the African nation of Bangalla will suddenly shatter. It will take all of the Phantom’s many skills — and allies — to restore it. The most exciting series of the year starts here!
The first of two known Mad Cave Studios collected editions
Back in March, we reported the appearance of a Simon & Schuster listing for a deluxe hardcover edition of The Phantom Vol. 1. While also labeled "volume 1," this collection included the three one-shots that come after the 5-issue miniseries, which include The Phantom vs. The Sky Band #1, The Phantom vs. The Red Dragons #1, and the soon-to-be-released The Phantom vs. The Singh Brotherhood #1.
The deluxe hardcover for The Phantom Vol. 1 will release on December 15, 2026 (assuming this date is still accurate). This means any Ghost Who Walks fans who missed the single issues for The Phantom will be able to catch up by the end of the year!
