Frew Colouring Comp Winner Announced

In a Facebook post today, Frew announced the winner of the Colouring In Competition from issue #1763, their 80th Anniversary special.

SF '97 - '16

It was a complex challenge, with a very detailed frame created by Shane Foley. Interestingly, his signature on the crate (bottom middle of the pic and enlarged here) seems to indicate that the image was drawn over a 20 year period!

It's possible that entries were a little slow coming in to Frew, as about a week before the closing date they put out a call on Facebook for more submissions. They even provided a digital copy of the image for those phans too precious to open their Specials, or who were worried about damaging the spine of the book when they scanned it.

Guy's entry - a worthy winner!

In the end though, it seems that the winning entry was submitted before this took place, with the winner sharing his version on Facebook about two weeks prior. It could well be that this is why there were not more entrants!

As you can see in Frew's announcement (below), there can be no doubt that Guy Poissant is a worthy winner. It will be nice to see this (and hopefully some of the also-rans) printed in a future Frew issue.

Canadian Guy Poissant is well known to phans on the many Facebook Phantom groups, as he regularly shares his colouring efforts of black and white images sourced from artists as well as through online searches.

And the prize? Glenn Ford's original cover art for #1763: a one-of-a-kind and sure to be a wonderful addition to Guy's collection.

Poissant seemed stunned with the win:

Wow... what a nice surprise! Thanks to the Frew Crew (Dudley Hogarth, Glenn Ford and Rene White) for that competition, it was something fun to do. I would like to thank you guys for all the love, all the efforts and all the time that you invest to give us a fantastic publication. Keep up the good work!

Thanks also to everyone who participated.

From Frew:

Thank you to all who entered. Unfortunately there can only be one winner. In the eyes of the Frew Crew of Deep Woods all entries submitted were treasured and appreciated as winners. There will be more competitions and further opportunities in the future.

This last comment about future competitions is particularly heartening. The rest of us have to hope that Frew institute a quota system and Guy is no longer allowed to enter any of the colouring competitions!

Congratulations Guy, from all of us here at ChronicleChamber.
