Will Murray, writer for Moonstone Books has passed

Will Murray has sadly passed. He was a pulp historian as well as a writer who wrote short stories and pulp fiction for a wide range of characters, including our Phantom for Moonstone Books.

He was considered one of the top authorities on pulp fiction of the 20th century. He wrote prose for Doc Savage, The Destroyer, The Executioner, Tarzan of the Apes, King Kong, The Spider, Superman, Batman, Spider-Man, Sherlock Holmes, the Green Hornet, Zorro, Honey West, Cthulhu, Dr. Herbert West, and numerous others. Murray also created the Unbeatable Squirrel Girl for Marvel Comics.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Will Murray's family and friends in this sad time.

For Moonstone Books, he created three stories. Two were prose stories and included in the two Chronicle Books published in 2009 and 2010, which featured spot illustrations by Rubén Procopio. The illustration for one of the stories by Ruben is included below.

The third story featured a story written about the fourth Phantom and illustrated by Shawn Van Briesen and Mark Stegbauer. This story was featured in the Generations title released by Moonstone Books in 2009. The series was originally intended as a 21-issue maxi-series with one story for each Phantom. Each regular issue of Generations is 36 pages, with a 22-page story in "comic novella" format, i.e. illustrated prose and not a regular comic book story. Each issue featured a different creative team.
