The Phantom community was in mourning with Ulf Granberg passing in January 2026, and the new Fantomen issue that is released 29 April 2026 celebrates the impact he had on our community.

We released a special podcast, X-Band: Phantom Podcast #327 - Remembering Ulf Granberg which you can watch and/or listen to. This special 100-page magazine goes one step further, remembering and honouring his impact.
First up is the great cover by Henrik Salhstrom honouring Ulf Granberg as he is sitting amongst his friends in Old Man Mozz, Luaga, The Phantom, Diana, Kit, Heloise, Tomm Tomm, Rex, and Guran. It is interesting noting the age of the children (Kit, Heloise, Rex, and Tomm Tomm), I assume it is because he created so many stories in the 1970s and 1980s with them featured at this age. How many times did we see the Phantom reading something from the chronicles to them at this age?
This is the second time Henrik Salhstrom has done a cover like this, honoring a great who has passed. Last time was for Cleas Reimerthi.
Included in this issue are three truly classic Phantom stories written by Ulf Granberg and deserving of being reprinted as an honor to him. The stories featured are:
"Kapplöpning med döden" ("Race Against Death") by Ulf Granberg and Hans Lindahl
"Sir Fantomen - riddare av runda bordet" ("Sir Phantom - Knight of the Round Table") by Ulf Granberg and Jaime Vallvé
"Flykten från Djävulsön" ("Escape from Devil's Island") by Ulf Granberg and Heiner Bade
What makes this 100-page memorial issue so special is the amount of tributes that have been collected about Ulf Granberg. Editors Jacob Habinc and Andreas Eriksson have done a great job collecting them all.
All together there are twelve pages with drawings, photos, tributes, and articles by Nisse Lindberg, Sy Barry, Lennart Moberg, Hasse Lindahl, Robert Aman, Tony DePaul, Jonas Darnell, Patrick Norman, Brian Jensen, Roy Felmang, Mikael Sol, Joan Boix, and Alex Saviuk.
Below is a sample of the 12 pages, which are indeed worth reading and looking at.
This image from 1985 says it all, as he was truly the editor that was not only directing traffic in Sweden but also in Australia, the USA, and many more countries around the world. For those playing along at home, the creators featured are (left to right): Georges Bess, Knut Westad, Ozcan Eralp, Donne Avenell, Norman Worker, Kari Leppanen, Hans Lindahl, Dai Darell, Michael Tierres (Claes Remerthi) and Jaime Vallve.
