  • Fantomen 14-15/2026 celebrates the Phantom's 90th birthday

What better way to celebrate the Phantom's birthday than with a celebrational story featuring Lee Falk's other hero—Mandrake the Magician? Fantomen 14-15/2026 was released June 24, 2026 and features a double issue with 124 pages of full colour with an amazing cover by Henrik Salhstrom and three (maybe four) stories. The stories are: "Hur det hela började" (part of "The Spark") by Tony DePaul and Mike Manley "Intrikata intriger" ("Intricate intrigues") by Pidde Andersson and Alex Saviuk "Systrarna Marshall" ("The Marshall Sisters") by Lee Falk, Ray Moore, and Wilson McCoy "Vi står emot ondskan" ("The Commander Will See You Now") by Tony DePaul and Jeff Weigel The birthday magazine also includes a poster of a silhouette of Mr Walker in a famous running pose by artist Jan Håfström. It also features several editorial articles celebrating the Phantom, which are a great educational read for those who may have come in late. The first (part) story is the two weeks from the 268th Daily story, "The Spark" which features a detailed two-week "For those who came in late" retelling of the origin of the Phantom. This was drawn by Mike Manly. This is a great introduction and follows the tradition of Frew comics in the 1970s and 1980s when they featured a "For those come in late" in every comic. It must be remembered that any comic could be a fan's first Phantom comic. The second story, "Intrikata intriger" ("Maze of Intrigue") by Pidde Andersson and Alex Saviuk is the flagship story of this issue. The title sounds like a movie title created by Alfred Hitchcock. Both Andersson and Saviuk are fan favourites and they bring a fun crossover story of Lee Falk's two creations. If I had to be critical, it would have been nice to have both featured in their costumes in more of the adventure. Yes, Mandrake in his classic-style top hat and coat is not practical, but it is iconic. Every birthday needs a reflection of the past, and this issue is no different with a reprint of a classic Wilson McCoy and/or Ray Moore drawn story featuring the Marshall sisters. Are they baddies? Surely they cannot be friends to the Phantom or Diana? In our past interview with Andreas Eriksson and Jacob Habinc (X-Band: Phantom Podcast #293 - Fantomen 2025), we asked if they would follow the lead of Tony DePaul and change the Unknown Commanders' office like the newspaper stories. The story has now been published in their magazine, so surely the office renovations has to follow in their created stories from now on?

  • Dolmen Editorial releasing Wilson McCoy & Lee Falk stories in hardcover album #20

Dolmen Editorial is now up to volume 20 in their hardcover Phantom Daily adventure release and will be shipping their preorders from next week (end of June 2026). You can buy volume 20 here You can buy back issues here The good news is that it follows a more regular release date compared to prior releases. Volume 19 was released in March 2026; however, volume 18 was released May 22, 2025—basically a year prior, and volume 17 was released 16 months before that, in January 2024. Volume #20 features stories released in 1949-1951, written by Lee Falk and illustrated by Wilson McCoy. The volume is 192 pages printed in black and white. The list of stories is likely: "The Thuggees" "The Ape Idol of the Durugu" "The Movie Stars" "The White Monkey" "The Gray Gang" "Whirlpool Channel" Unlike Frew and other publishers, Dolmen Editoria has decided to merge the daily and Sunday versions of three stories in their reprints. This is the same as what Hermes originally did, and it is the right call. Starting in February 1949, the Phantom Sundays and the Phantom daily strips featured the same stories. However - since several newspapers only included either the Phantom dailies or the Phantom Sundays, the stories also had to be written in such a way that the readers who didn't get both were still able to understand and appreciate the plot. As a result, the stories became quite repetitive when reading both Sundays and dailies, while the readers who only had access to either one of the two were left with some notable jumps in the storytelling. This practice was abandoned in May 1950, after four stories, which were "Father and Son", "The Flirtatious Princess", "The Thuggees", and "The Ape Idol of the Durugu". Attached is an example of what it looks like with "The Thuggees" which is included in this volume. If there are any phans from Spain or others who buy and collect these volumes and would like to review them for Chronicle Chamber, please contact us at ChronicleChamber@gmail.com.

  • Review: 'The Phantom vs. The Red Dragons #1' from Mad Cave Studios

The Red Dragons (also known as "Pirates of the Red Dragon" or "Red Dragon Pirates") are one of The Phantom's more legendary foes. Introduced in a 1979 Team Fantomen story, later republished by Frew, these villains, led by the alluring and bloodthirsty Princess Sin, would appear in a number of original stories from both publishers. For The Phantom's 90th birthday, Mad Cave Studios adds its own lore to the Red Dragons, with Phantom series writer Ray Fawkes leading the charge. The Phantom vs. The Red Dragons #1 one-shot introduces a new villain to the ever-expanding Mad Cave Studios roster while tethering itself to The Phantom 5-issue miniseries and previous one-shot The Phantom vs. The Sky Band #1. Watch our review below, and see how the creative team puts its own unique spin on the Red Dragons while paying homage to the phan-favorite classic stories. Credits for the issue are: Title: The Phantom vs. The Red Dragons #1 Writer: Ray Fawkes Artist: Lynne Yoshii Colorist: Juancho! Velez Letterer: Taylor Esposito Editor: Sarah Brunstad Main Cover: Alessio Zonno Variant Cover: Freddie Williams II & Andrew Dalhouse Synopsis: But how do you kill a Ghost? The Red Dragons are gonna try—and anyone who gets in the way is just collateral damage! When someone in The Phantom’s familiar cowl starts sinking the Dragons’ pirate operations, Princess Sin goes on the warpath. The South China Sea belongs to the Red Dragons—and they’re not afraid of one man in a mask. Not yet. Another thrilling installment in Ray Fawkes’ action-packed adventure with guest artist Lynne Yoshii! The Phantom vs The Red Dragons #1 main cover by Alessio Zonno How does this story compare to the original Red Dragon pirates tales? We hesitate to use the word "adaptation" on what Ray Fawkes, Lynne Yoshii, Taylor Esposito, and Juancho Velez have done here. This version of the Red Dragons has a similar ruthlessness to the older tales, but the plot is completely new. The way the story plays out, this new take embeds this band of pirates in an ever-expanding Mad Cave Studios universe for The Phantom. Do any original Red Dragon pirates appear? Princess Sin appears in this issue in her role as the villainous head of the Red Dragons. Orkhan, Waldo, and Red Dragon associate and benefactor Omar Talmash do not make an appearance here. There seems to be a stand-in for Talmash, though we won't name who, for fear of spoiling how this one-shot ties into previous Mad Cave Studios The Phantom titles. For fans looking to see Drakon, the volcanic island, sadly, is not part of this story. Are there any connections to previous Red Dragon stories? Yes! Princess Sin is in this issue, and the Red Dragons' flagship is still a destroyer-class warship. One could argue that the part of the plot that relies on framing The Phantom is a callback to when the Pirates of the Red Dragon used Waldo the Hypnotist to frame Diana Palmer. Question for the phans: Did you enjoy The Phantom vs. The Red Dragons #1? Let us know by commenting below this article, on our YouTube, or by dropping us a line. We'd love to hear your thoughts!

  • Life imitates Phantom comic with largest whale graveyard found in Indian Ocean

Recently a whale graveyard was found in the Indian Ocean, and some have claimed it to be the largest know graveyard in the world, including fossils of previously unknown whale species. The reason this is interesting from a Phantom's perspective is because in the very first Phantom story "The Singh Brotherhood" created by Lee Falk and Ray Moore, Diana found a whales' graveyard that was being hunted by the Singh Pirates who wanted the ambergris. While ambergris is not used as much for perfume in today's world, back in the 1930s it was costly and greatly sought after. For instance, in 1930, a 44-pound haul brought in an impressive $11,000 (roughly $172,000 adjusted for modern inflation). Even in modern days in 2021, fishermen found a 127 kg (280-pound) piece of ambergris off the coast of Yemen, valued at US$1.5 million. Above is a copy of the original story featuring Diana talking about the ambergris she found. In the story, she talked about the graveyard being off the coast of Java, known which is not too far from this recent discovery. As you can see, the graveyard found by the Chinese scientists is off the coast of Perth, Western Australia, but due north of Australia is Java, which is only a few sailing days away. Is this just a coincidence of life imitating a comic? You can read the article here

  • Denmark publisher E-Voke announce the extension of their Fantomet hardcover series

The Fantomet: Legenden vender tilbage series is a hardcore album series from Danish publisher E-Voke that started in 2024 and will now be continuing into 2027. While exact details on the issues are still under wraps to be released later, we are able to piece together some details. Some of the stories included will be the following: "Burnt Offering" written by Claes Reimerthi, with art by Heiner Bade (originally published by Fantomen 2-3/2012 and Frew #1622) "Sister Steelfist" written by Tony DePaul, with art by César Spadari (originally published by Fantomen 10/2011 and Frew #1598) "Ughland" the 151st Phantom daily story written by Lee Falk and drawn by Sy Barry. There will also be a second Mandrake the Magician story drawn by Andre LeBlanc, who worked as an assistant for Sy Barry from the mid-1970s to the 1990s. Below you can see the two covers the publishers have teased. The cover of the Phantom dressed as a nun is by Hans Lindahl and was first used for Fantomen 2-3/2012. The other cover features artwork by Heiner Bade, but we are unsure if this is a new artwork piece created by Bade before his passing or if it has been computer-generated or manipulated. Thanks to Thomas Askjellerud for the information on the new information of the e-voke hardcover volumes. We are still interested in finding someone who can review these for us. If you are interested, please contact us at ChronicleChamber@gmail.com.

  • 'Phantom 2040: A New Shadow' season 2 announced

At Chronicle Chamber, we've been wondering if Comics Kingdom had plans for more Phantom 2040: A New Shadow, especially as the series is nearing its 20-episode conclusion. Quite a bit of world-building has been woven into this series by writers Alex Segura and Michael Moreci, with a hauntingly beautiful dystopian ambiance from artists John Amor and George Kambadais. Phantom 2040: A New Shadow art by John Amor For starters, we were introduced to a brand-new member of The Phantom family in Carlos Oserio, with appearances by classic TV series favorites like Kit Walker Jr., DVL, Sagan Cruz, and others. The villainous tech magnate Charles Tyrus had his own transformation, and we learned more about the Ghost Jungle's importance to this nightmarish 2040 landscape. Plus, characters like Mel and the ever-mysterious Fitzroy gave us so much to ponder between episode releases on ComicsKingdom.com. With each episode release, it seemed like there were even more questions left unanswered. It'd make sense to keep the momentum going with new stories, wouldn't it? Comics Kingdom made it official by announcing season 2 of Phantom 2040: A New Shadow on social media platforms like Facebook, X, and Instagram. While the promo reel has been removed from Instagram, it's still available to view on X. Readers can also view the promo for the season 1 finale on Youtube: Details about a release schedule for season 2 are nonexistent at the time of this article. It's fair to say that we might see some of the same creative team return, as writer Alex Segura has been commenting on some of the main Comics Kingdom's vague posting about season 2 leading up to the announcement in the official Comics Kingdom Discord. We will update Phantom 2040 fans when details on a release date and a schedule are available. Question for the Phans: What would you like to see in season 2 of Phantom 2040: A New Shadow?

  • Mythos Editora poster book open for pre orders (with video sneak peak)

A huge thanks to Brazilian phan Cesar Rossi (the phan who recorded the video) and Celso Nunes for this video from Brazil where, at a local university book fair, Mythos Editoria showcased a prototype of a special 90th anniversary poster book. While it was a prototype then, the book is now available for preorder on their website. Click to buy the poster book It will be a larger book with 32 pages and featuring 30 posters and a collection of popular modern and some classic covers from publishers around the world. The book will be shipped to fans from July 2026 onwards. At this stage, the exact contents of the book on what covers will be featured are unknown. The video attached will give users a good example of what could be included. A poster book is usually a book containing a collection of high-quality, large-format prints or posters bound together. The pages are typically designed with perforated edges so you can easily tear them out and hang them on a wall without damaging the images. Assume if any phan rips out the pages, they may need to buy two of them. We are still after a fan and/or reader from Brazil to review all the hardcover collection books from Mythos Editora. If that is you, please contact us at ChronicleChamber@gmail.com.

  • Fan Question: When was the button & lamp light first used at the Jungle Patrol

Every so often we get a fan question about some random fact or first time something happened in a Phantom story. We explore a question about when the button and light were first used at the Jungle Patrol in a Phantom story. Daily adventure story #74: The Swamp Rats Written by Lee Falk and drawn by Wilson McCoy. In this story, the button to light the lamp light was only used to signify an emergency. Before this, the Colonel would check the safe everyday if there was a message from the Unknown Commander. The other negative was that it could be weeks before the Phantom would check the safe for messages from the Jungle Patrol. Obviously, this had limitations, likely why Lee Falk introduced the lamp. Daily adventure story #77: The Monkey Mail Written by Lee Falk and drawn by Wilson McCoy. Lee Falk changed the system slightly in the 1960 story where the lamp was used to signal any messages from the Unknown Commander instead of emergency messages, like shown in the "Swamp Rats" storyline. However, what about when the Jungle Patrol needs to communicate with the Unknown Commander? Daily adventure story #82: The Slave Market of Mucar Written by Lee Falk and drawn by Sy Barry. Lee Falk obviously realised the potential problem, hence why he created an emergency solution with homing pigeons. It was just a temporary solution. Daily adventure story #90: The Bad Ones Written by Lee Falk and drawn by Sy Barry. The first time that the lamp light and button were used on both ends of the Unknown Commander's safe was in 1965. Now, there is no delay of the Phantom checking the mail at Jungle Patrol headquarters. However, the problem is still there: if the Phantom is outside of Bangalla on a mission or a family holiday, what happens next? This is a problem that is still not solved by Tony DePaul who has changed the Unknown Commanders office at headquarters. Does he still use the lamp trick with the renovations? If you have any other Phantom related fan questions you would like to see explored and answered, please let us know. You can email us your question at ChronicleChamber@gmail.com or via our social media platforms (Facebook, YouTube, Reddit, Instagram, WhatsApp, or X).
