Join us with an engaging chat with Lennart Moberg who worked for Fantomen for 15 years and was one of the few who wrote and drew stories for Semic / Egmont. If you read Team Fantomen stories in the 1990's you would have marveled at his stories. We are talking about classics like Hoogaan's Revenge, The Set Up, Hunted, King of Chicago, The Psychopath, The Murder Rap plus many more. Lennart was also part of the Team Fantomen crew who mapped out and planned stories we all read, l

The Phantom Comics and the New Left: A Socialist Superhero

For those who came in late, Swedish academic and Phantom phan Robert Aman has had his Phantom thesis turned into a book! His recently released volume The Phantom Comics and the New Left is an extensive examination into The Phantom and the way the stories played an important role in politics in Sweden during the 1960s and 1970s. The book is now being shipped around the world, with many phans having already made their purchase. Robert has graciously appeared on an episode of X-

    Fantomen Launches Anniversary Celebrations

2020 looms as a year of sentimentality and celebration in Sweden as we lead up to the 70th Anniversary of the Fantomen magazine, first published way back on October 5 1950. We are led to believe that throughout 2020 we will see nostalgic reprints and new surprises. This begins with the very first issue of the anniversary year, which included a very special version of their traditional "Schedule" poster, featuring a previously unseen Jaime Vallve painting (see bottom of page).

There might only be three Frew and two Egmont comic books for us to review since our last Comics and News podcast, but it does not mean it will be a short podcast :) We received a phone call during the podcast by none other than Shane Foley the creator behind the Frew's version of the team up between their characters in The Phantom, Sir Falcon, Catman and The Shadow. Shane gives us a great in depth look at the series and what will happen next. Mikael Lyck also gives us his de

Australia and Sweden have their branch of the LFMBEC, Supanova Sydney has a Chronicle Chamber lunch and USA has their annual phan meet up at Sardi's. Every meeting is different and has it owns uniqueness - Sardi's is no different. Chronicle Chamber goes back to the 1960's and 1970's with an interesting discussion with Team Fantomen writer Magnus Knuttsson. He may be a bit of an unknown too many Phantom phans but when you discuss Rhodia / Rodia, females in the Jungle Patrol and the Team Fantomen group who write us stories that are read around the world, Magnus is the father of all of these important elements. Listen as we go into depth on his stories from the 1960's as we learn firsthand about how Semic

X Band Podcast Mentioned in Fantomen 12/2019

Next week Fantomen issue 12/2019 comes out in stores around Sweden. Every issue features a short editorial message from Mikael Sol which is similar to the Message from the Publisher Frew readers see from Dudley Hogarth. What makes this editorial message so cool for us is that he focuses on Chronicle Chamber's X-Band: The Phantom Podcast! Now we are very vocal and proud of what it has become, and we are very happy and ecstatic we get a good shout out in the popular Swedish mag

On this day 62 years ago, Fantomen issue 7/1957 was released. Who cares? Well, what makes this issue significant is that it was the first Phantom cover that the legendary cover artist Rolf Gohs had published. His career has spanned across seven decades, with an astonishing 911 covers (you read that correctly - nine hundred and eleven covers!!) and countless other Phantom images that have been published across more than ten countries and several continents! An Interview with the Italian Master - Felmang (Part 1)

An entire generation of Phantom phans have grown up on the art of Roy Felmang. Many of us have devoured every beautifully crafted panel, figure and story drawn by the Italian Master who, despite his many pen-names, we most simply know as Felmang. He is credited as the story artist on seven Fratelli Spada stories (published 1967-1970), one hundred Team Fantomen stories (1987-2014) and most recently has started writing and illustrating original stories for Frew Publications in

The Incredible Legacy of Özcan Eralp: RIP

News have reached us from Turkey that longtime Phantom artist Özcan Eralp passed away on January 12, 2019. His funeral was held in the Kızıltoprak mosque on January 13, 2019. He was 83 years old. When I was a child, my uncle lived with us for a while and drew The Phantom. Some of the best memories I have, was from when he drew and I was watching, as he explained how the images and speech bubbles would fit together. We always had fun, calm and cozy moments, even though he was

X-Band: The Phantom Podcast #101 - Politics and The Phantom

There are times, it is said, when The Phantom should stay out of politics. Our guest in Episode 101 would vehemently disagree! Robert Aman may not yet be a big name in Phantom circles, but the chat we had with him in the podcast may well be one of the most fascinating in the history of X-Band. A Senior Lecturer in Education at Linköping University (Sweden), Robert conducts research into ideology, national identity and the politics of representation in comics. His argument abo

Lee Falk on the Team Fantomen Origin Stories

Have you listened to Episode 97 of X-Band: The Phantom Podcast - the Ulf Granberg interview? If so, no doubt you have learnt a lot and may also have been intrigued by his comments when we asked about Lee Falk's opinions about Semic* stories. While of course Lee Falk's work provides the core of The Phantom canon, there are many disputes as to what else can be regarded as 'true' Phantom Lore. Scandinavian authors published stories on the origin of both of the Phantom's rings, a

X-Band: The Phantom Podcast #97B - Interview with Ulf Granberg Conclusion

It is HERE!! Big shout out to Stephen who battled sickness & family commitments to get this edited and to you for a listen. Opportunities like this do not come along very often. Ulf Granberg is the man behind Egmont through what was a golden age for The Phantom in Scandinavia - he was the editor of the Swedish Phantom comic book, Fantomen from 1973 to 1987, then again from 2003 to 2012. From 1973-2012 Ulf was head of Team Fantomen, the group of creators responsible for produc
